Qualifications
What we're looking for:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Two-year technical degree in an appropriate background is preferred.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Valid driver's license and a safe driving record are required.
Knowledgeable in maintenance equipment.
Minimum of 6 months' work experience repairing industrial processing equipment in a production environment is required. Applicable military experience will be considered.
Must pass UniFirst's maintenance knowledge assessment test to be eligible for employment.
Ability to read blueprints and schematics is required.
Ability to read and understand maintenance literature printed in English is required.

Duty location impacts pay rates; locality pay for federal law enforcement is higher in some locations than others. A fully trained BPA may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with a grade level progression of GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12. Duties and Responsibilities

Typical assignments include:

Qualifications
You qualify for the GL-5 grade level if you possess one of the following:
Experience: One (1) year of general work experience that demonstrates the ability to take charge, make sound decisions, and maintain composure in stressful situations; to learn regulations, methods, and techniques through classroom training and/or on-the-job instruction; and the ability to gather concise information through questioning, observation, and examination of documents and records; OR
Education Substitution: A bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in
any field
leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; OR
Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of general work experience AND successfully completed college education. This will be calculated using your resume and official or unofficial transcripts submitted with your application.

Experience: One year of specialized work experience that shows you have the skills necessary to:
Make sound judgments and decisions in the use of firearms.

Education Substitution for the GL-7 grade level: A bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average (i.e., GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0), or (3) honor society membership. Or will receive a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement. Or one full year of graduate-level education in a field of study related to law enforcement (e.g., criminal justice, homeland security, justice studies, law enforcement, courts and judicial systems, forensic technology, forensic psychology, or corrections and rehabilitation) from an accredited college or university; OR
A Combination of Experience and Education: This will be calculated using your resume and official or unofficial transcripts submitted with your application.

Other Requirements

The Low Voltage Cabling Technician for Megawatt Construction is responsible for installing, staging, testing, and maintaining structured cabling systems and related hardware within data center fit-out projects. This role includes copper and fiber cabling installation, equipment staging and inventory control, quality assurance, and support of overall data center infrastructure deployment.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Deployment
Install, route, and secure structured cabling including Cat5e/6/6A, coax, and fiber-optic (single-mode and multi-mode) cables.
Build and install racks, cabinets, ladder racks, cable trays, cable baskets, and fiber raceways.
Terminate copper and fiber cables to industry standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI, manufacturer specifications).
Install patch panels, cable managers, equipment shelves, and associated hardware.
Label all cables and infrastructure according to project documentation and QC requirements.
Equipment Staging & Inventory Management
Assist in receiving, unpacking, and verifying incoming materials, hardware, and equipment.
Maintain accurate inventory of cabling, connectors, ladders, hardware, consumables, and tools.
Prepare and stage racks, patch panels, cable bundles, and equipment assemblies for installation.
Track material usage and report shortages or replenishment needs to the project manager or warehouse team.
Organize storage areas to ensure efficient material flow and easy access during project execution.
Testing, Verification & Quality Assurance
Perform copper and fiber testing using certification tools (e.g., Fluke DSX, OTDR).
Troubleshoot cabling faults, continuity failures, polarity issues, and signal loss.
Document test results, as-built information, and changes for turnover packages.
Maintain high-quality installation standards through proper cable dressing and pathway management.
Project Coordination & Documentation
Read and interpret blueprints, rack elevations, cable schedules, and scope-of-work documents.
Coordinate with project managers, network engineers, electricians, and GC teams to complete tasks on schedule.
Follow all change control processes and installation guidelines.
Update daily job logs, material tracking sheets, and progress reports as required.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all data center safety protocols, access rules, and PPE requirements.
Ensure installations comply with NEC, local building codes, and industry standards (TIA, BICSI).
Maintain organized, hazard-free work areas.
Qualifications & Skills
Preferred
1-3+ years of experience in low-voltage cabling or structured cabling installation.
Hands-on experience with copper and/or fiber termination and testing.
Familiarity with data center environments, cable containment systems, and rack build-outs.
Experience with inventory handling, warehouse coordination, or equipment staging.
Ability to read construction drawings and follow technical documentation.
Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
BICSI Installer or Technician certifications (INST1, INST2, TECH).
Experience in critical facility or live data center environments.
OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety certifications.
Experience with Fluke DSX testers, OTDRs, and fiber inspection equipment.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 50 lbs or more.
Ability to work on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces.
Ability to stand, bend, pull cable, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
Work Environment
Fast-paced construction and commissioning environments.
