Examples of Duties Essential Functions Duties may include, but are not limited to,the following: * Performs basic diagnosis of malfunctions,determinesthe probable cause, andrecommends necessary remedial action to the lead worker of supervisor for prioritization andassignment * Repairs or removes and replaces and replaces dysfunctional components of major systems, including, but not limited to, engine, electrical, suspension, fueling, pneumatic andhydraulic systems * Tune engines * Performs regular preventive maintenance inspections of allvehiclesystems, repairs minorproblems on the spot and makes written reports toindicatemore complex remedial action thatis needed * Performs acceptance testing and pre-service preparations to newlyacquiredvehicles * Packs bearings, adjusts and relinesbrakes * Repairs minor damage to interior or exterior ofvehiclesincluding, but not limited to, torn seats,broken windows and windshields, minor dents, and cosmetic paint damage * Responds to road failure situations * Renders remedial action to return bus to operating division * Disassembles, cleans, inspects, and rebuilds engine systems and their mechanical andelectrical components Qualifications Experience/Education * Highschool diploma or equivalent. * Combination of at leasttwo(2) years of apprentice level verifiable training and experience in automotive orbusmechanics, which mayincludecollegemechanics courses and/or a regional occupational program. * Associatedegree relevant toworkwith heavy equipmentand/oralternative fuels is preferred. * Two (2) years of experience working withautomotive, bus, or heavy-duty mechanicsat a transit agency is preferred. A combination of experience/skills and education to fulfill the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position may be considered.
