Institut Ludwig for Cancer Research company history timeline

1971

American businessman Daniel K. Ludwig began to support cancer research with the establishment of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in 1971.

In 1971, he launched the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (he had to be persuaded strongly to allow his name to be used), endowing it with nearly all of his international holdings.

1982

Nauts became the Institute’s founding executive director and served tirelessly in that role until 1982, when she became the Institute’s director of science and medical communications.

1994

Meanwhile, in order to establish a more formal network of cancer immunology’s international talent base, the Institute initiated in 1994 its Annual International Cancer Immunotherapy Symposium.

1999

Beginning in 1999, the model was first employed in what is now called the Cancer Antigen Discovery Collaborative (CADC), dedicated to identifying antigens in colon, breast, and prostate cancer.

2011

In fact, Ludwig research in 2011 on a newly approved immune-targeting drug, ipilimumab (marketed as Yervoy), has paved the way for clinical trials combining the drug with a vaccine.

It was approved in 2011 by the US Food and Drug Administration as the first drug for advanced melanoma in over ten years.

2014

In 2014, the Cancer Research Institute launched a new website devoted to patients and caregivers called TheAnswerToCancer.org.
