LUTHERAN HOSPITAL, located at 2609 Franklin Boulevard, was established in 1896 by the Evangelical Lutheran Hospital Association of Cleveland.
In 1898 the Marcus Hanna home was acquired and adapted for hospital use.
Lutheran Medical Center began in 1905 as the Evangelical Lutheran Sanitarium, a tent colony for tuberculosis patients.
Community-based Lutheran Hospital, a not-for-profit, general medical facility located on a 100-acre campus, opened its doors in 1961.
In July 1986 Lutheran Medical Center affiliated with FAIRVIEW GENERAL HOSPITAL in a joint venture called Health Cleveland, Inc., a holding company for the two hospitals, their subsidiaries, and their foundations.
In 1995 it was a 221-bed, nonprofit, faith-based general hospital, offering programs in spine and orthopedics, SPORTS MEDICINE, senior mental health, and urology.
Since 1995, we’ve invested over $186 million in regional organizations, churches, and schools.
In January 1998, Lutheran Medical Center joined Saint Joseph Hospital and Exempla Medical Group to form Exempla Healthcare, a not-for-profit, community-based organization, to manage operations of the hospital and medical group.
In 2010, Exempla Healthcare joined with the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, a mission-based healthcare ministry established more than 150 years ago.
