Positions assigned to this class are responsible for performing specialized duties to ensure accurate meter operations that lead to accurate billing of utilities customers. Duties include creating and closing work orders, performing meter inventory, managing hydrant and temp meters; assisting with system upgrades and testing; and assisting with Utility processes and projects. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is a fully qualified, experienced level Utility support classification in the management support and analysis job family. Incumbent(s) performs the full range of support duties under general supervision. Classification requires solid knowledge of transactional and/or work standards for completing tasks and assignments of a varied nature. Work may vary from basic to more complex duties and issues but are generally within expected parameters. ESSENTIAL DUTIES The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town's needs. * Prepares, processes, reviews, corrects, and close work orders for residential, construction and commercial accounts; creates follow-up and additional repair work orders as needed; work directly with Utilities field staff to add/edit/provide equipment and location specifics and ensures that daily work order functions are completed accurately and in a timely manner. * Manages and maintains the hydrant/temp meter tracking log with set, pull, move, and maintenance to hydrant/temp meters; oversees the distribution/collection of all hydrant/temp meters; manages the locations of all rental meters; communicates with Customer Service staff to ensure the correct rate codes and charges are applied by Customer Service. * Receives new meter and MXU inventory, verifies and enters ID's and size, map and sequence meters when set and manage inventory. * Assists with maintaining data integrity in the utility billing account software as it relates to field operations; including meter type, size and number of dials to be read, meter location, meter and register number, correct read type, bill code, as well as associating assigned meters with proper addresses in order for accounts to bill correctly. * Provides feedback and assists with testing for system upgrades and implementations on existing and new Utility Billing Software. Assist with special projects for the department. * Reviews reports to identify errors, unusual account activity, recommends necessary adjustments, handles special investigations on meter discrepancies, identifies and corrects meter reading errors that affect billing, and monitors high profile accounts. * Advises Utilities superintendent and utility leadership of error patterns/trends, including incorrect service order or assignment type, address affiliation to a meter and resolution which all effect production and customer satisfaction. * Provides support in the research, organization, implementation & completion of special projects as assigned. * Performs related work as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (at job entry) Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED and 3 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
