Lydall, Inc. history

The Manchester Water Company was incorporated by an act of the General Assembly in 1889.

In fact, during April, 1900, the Lydall & Foulds plant in Parkerville burned to the ground.

1913: The Colonial Board Company is formed.

The factory building in Lydallville was sold in 1915 to Annulli Brothers, who intended to use the plant for the manufacture of concrete blocks.

After Henry Lydall's death, the company continued to expand under William Foulds, who in 1923 was the active head of three paper companies: The Lydall & Foulds Paper Company, The William Foulds Company, and The Colonial Board Company.

1951: The predecessor to Lydall Transport, Ltd. is formed as part of the Colonial Board Company.

More than a half-century passed before the Lydall name first appeared, however, a moment that arrived when Colonial Board merged with another company in 1969, creating Lydall, Inc.

1970: Lydall's fiber process division is formed.

CT., trained as a fashion stylist and was associated with G. Fox & Company, Hartford, CT., designed costumes and sets for drama, opera and dance, and was the first president of the Costume Society of America (elected 1973).

Lydall continued its mergers and acquisitions, and in 1977 was listed on the American Stock Exchange, with plants in New Hampshire and North Carolina.

According to the company's history, the division was the oldest operating unit of Lydall until 1986, when it acquired Manning Nonwovens, now known as the Green Island Operation of Lydall's thermal/acoustical group.

In 1989, Lydall was listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the trading symbol LDL.

1991: Lydall acquires a plant in Brittany, France, its first foreign property.

In 1994, Lydall acquired a plant in Columbus, Ohio, capable of fabricating automotive thermal and acoustical insulation products.

The acquisitions were completed in 1998, a year that also brought sweeping change throughout the Lydall organization.

But any charges will be reflected in the company's first-quarter earnings, which will be reported with year-end 2000 numbers on Feb.

In the wake of the nearly two-year-long restructuring program, Lydall completed two important deals, both concluded in October 2001.

In December 2002, the company announced its intention to construct a 90,000-square-foot production plant in St Nazaire, France, its second plant in France and its third in Europe.

In late 2003, Freeman announced a major restructuring program.

In January 2004, the company announced it was closing its Columbus plant and integrating the facility's operations into other plants.
