Responsibilities:
Operate and monitor machines to ensure efficient production and quality output.
Follow work instructions, take direction, and communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
Perform basic troubleshooting and assist in simple repairs or adjustments to equipment.
Maintain accurate production records and follow established procedures.
Adhere to all safety guidelines and company policies while keeping work areas clean and organized.
Identify and report maintenance, product, or operational issues promptly.
Support team members and participate in training as needed.
Qualifications:
Entry-level candidates welcome; manufacturing experience preferred but not required.

JOB MISSION:
New Balance's Cutting positions perform a variety of machine operations in our shoe manufacturing process. Check specifications to ensure that the proper cutting instructions are followed as to size and width. Work is performed in a team environment - focused on safety, quality and productivity standards towards meeting customer demands.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs work according to established procedures and processes - executes tasks to the materials and parts of the shoe utilizing various tools and machinery.
Cuts all material in a cost-effective manner ensuring that all cutting of materials follows the accepted guidelines for both leather and synthetic shoe parts.
Selects correct die to be used from the spec sheet and maintains dies in proper working condition ensuring that tubes and dies are kept clean, sharp and in good repair.
Supports NB quality expectations/standards and takes ownership for meeting them. Ensures work quality before passing onto customers.
Follows NB policies and demonstrates responsibility for attendance, safety requirements, PPE and reporting of accidents and near misses.
Maintain a high level of quality per our internal & external customer requirements
REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS
Must be a team player with strong work ethic and open to feedback
Ability to read, understand and comprehend written or oral instructions and math skills
Must know the properties of leather and synthetic materials, and must be able to detect stretch, weight and color variations.
Ability to work on complex jobs in a fast paced, quality focused environment where we build 600 pair of shoes in an 8-hour shift
Ability to learn and adhere to start up and shutdown procedures (TPM) and making simple machine/mechanical adjustments to their workstation.
Willing to learn new skills, expand job knowledge, and adapt to a changing environment
Good manual dexterity skills (eye, hand and feet coordination)

Summary:

Position Summary:
The Planer/Molder Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Woodmaster W-4000 machine. This includes setup, calibration, operation, preventative maintenance and minor troubleshooting of the equipment to produce high-quality planed and molded wood components according to specifications. The ideal candidate has a background in woodworking machinery, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and productivity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Set up and operate the Woodmaster W-4000 Planer/Molder for various production runs.
Change and align cutterheads, blades, and molding profiles as required.
Adjust feed rates, depth of cut, and other machine settings based on wood species and desired finish.
Inspect raw materials for defects and verify finished product quality.
Feed lumber into the machine and monitor output to ensure smooth and consistent operation.
Perform daily and weekly machine inspections, cleaning, and lubrication.
Sharpen or replace planer and molder knives as needed.
Troubleshoot mechanical issues, identify worn parts, and perform basic repairs.
Maintain a clean and organized work area around the machine.
Record and report any malfunctions, safety concerns, or production issues to the supervisor.
Follow all company safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ensure machine guards, emergency stops, and dust collection systems are functioning properly.
Adhere to OSHA and company safety standards for woodworking equipment.
Maintain high standards of accuracy and finish in all planed and molded products.
Use measuring tools such as calipers, gauges, and squares to verify tolerances.
Perform in-process inspections and adjust settings to meet job specifications.
Crosstrain to perform other duties such as, mill housekeeping, saw filing, and lumber organization.
Contributes to developing and maintaining a safe working environment.
Maintains personal safety and watches out for the safety of others.
Accept and appreciate your fellow team member's watching out for your safety and offering suggestions or advice.
Requirements
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Preferably 2+ years of experience operating machinery.
Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of operations.
Ability to read production orders.
Proficient in using hand tools, measuring instruments, and machine setup equipment.
Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and safety.
Preferred Skills (Not Required):
Experience with other industrial woodworking equipment (e.g., jointers, shapers, sanders).
Familiarity with various wood species and how they respond to planning/molding.
Basic welding or fabrication skills for machine modifications or repairs.
Knowledge of dust collection and shop air systems.
Physical Requirements:
Able to lift and maneuver lumber and machine components up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work around loud machinery for extended periods.
Comfortable working in a shop environment with sawdust, noise, and varying temperatures.
Working Conditions:
Standard shop hours with occasional overtime based on production needs.
PPE required: safety glasses, hearing protection, dust mask/respirator as needed.

Your Role: FMI is looking for a Production Operator for our Densification team who are safety and goal orientated team players that help support our manufacturing team. The Schedule for the Production Operator is a rotating 4 days on - 4 days off, from 5:45pm - 6am and rates starting at $25/hr plus 20% Shift Differential!
Job responsibilities:
Loading/unloading, operate and monitor high temperature and high pressure equipment
Inspect products to ensure specifications are met
Perform mechanical maintenance of equipment
Perform data calculations
Recording of process data and manufacturing records for processes, parts and materials
Ability to work in a team environment
