General Description A Milling Machine Operator is an hourly-rated skilled craft position that performs on construction projects any combination of the duties described more fully, below. A Milling Machine Operator typically performs a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the work flow dictates. Beaufort/Ridgeland Key Duties * Must be able to operate a milling machine while capable of maintaining the depth of cut and cross slope that will achieve the results specified in the project contract documents * Able to remove existing asphalt pavement by milling to improve the ride ability and cross slope of the pavement, to lower the finished grade adjacent to existing curb prior to resurfacing, or to completely remove existing pavement * Understand and follow specific plans to specify an average depth of cut * Operate the milling machine with a built-in automatic grade control system while controlling the transverse slope and the longitudinal profile to produce the specified results * Operate and limit the amount of dust escaping during the removal operation * Able to complete pavement removal, the operator may use alternate removal and crushing equipment in lieu of the equipment specified * Understand basic survey nomenclature * Able to Judge distance and slopes accurately * Able to make decisions based on verifiable standards * Remove the existing raised reflective pavement markers prior to milling * Milling cross slope, remove the existing pavement to the average depth specified in the plans * Able to utilize requires use of a string line to ensure maintaining the proper alignment * Able to randomly take measurements of the cross slope of the milling operation * Understand production and quantity requirements * Ability to utilize automatic grade control system * Ability to schedule work while maintaining production * Hauling and stockpiling or otherwise disposing of the milled material as instructed * Ability to lead and delegate work within work scope * Ability to train other crew members * Responsible for daily maintenance of equipment to remain in proper and safe working order * Notify supervisor if equipment needs repair * Perform incidental work items and duties included within other crafts Qualification Requirements * General. Available Shifts: 1st Shift: 7:00am - 3:00pm CST 2nd Shift: 3:00pm - 11:00pm CST 3rd Shift: 11:00pm - 7:00am CST Summary of Essential Job Duties: Responsible for recognizing visible flaws or defects in lures (ex. color, shape and size). Operator is required to remain standing and monitoring each assigned machine during entirety of 8 hr. work shift Practice safe and cautious measures when using oil on machine molds to prevent damage to products. Assist with other duties deemed necessary as instructed by active supervisor Maintain a safe and clear walking space around machine Ensure equipment is free of materials which could damage or cause shift disturbance. Frequent walking and movement between assigned machines. Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Previous machine operation is preferred.
