Madden Industrial Craftsmen is looking to fill a Senior Machine Shop Manager position for the Shipyards in N. Portland, Oregon. This person may oversee 2 locations - N. Portland, OR and Clackamas, OR. The role manages approximately 35-70 craft employees in various skills in numerous work stations in manufacturing shops.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• plan a production schedule for the job
• implement and control the production schedule
• review and adjust the schedule where needed
• determine the human resources required
• determine the material resources required
• manage human and material resources to meet production targets
• make decisions about equipment use, maintenance, modification and procurement
REQUIREMENTS:
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written for constant interaction with all departments and employee levels as well as customers
• Ability to lead, manage and motivate employees in a production environment
• Ability to lead consolidation of multiple locations into a single operation. Critical change management skills will be required.

with increasing responsibilities. The incumbent must have experience and thorough knowledge of production procedures, government regulations, and administrative procedures within a marine program with a background in continuous process improvement. He/she must have experience and a working knowledge of all specific operations of departments, including all machinery and tools.

The shop operations manager is responsible for the management and integration of shop activities to ensure quality products are delivered as required by the business. In addition they are knowledgeable on current manufacturing technologies, evaluate those technologies for the business, and in building business cases for the investment in capital equipment with the purpose of being able to continue to provide products for Thorlabs evolving business/market as well as keeping our shop competitive as new manufacturing technologies replace existing solutions. The operations manager is also responsible for identifying and successfully implementing COGS reduction activities. They will work closely with compliance and quality to ensure that corporate goals and metrics are met. Although the location of the position is in Dulles, VA, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other ThorLabs locations.
Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

Manage machining, CNC programming, and maintenance staff.
Provide scheduling of all machines and staff.
Manage cutting tool selection and inventory control.
Coordinate Design, Development and Proof Out of production tooling between Manufacturing Engineering, CNC programming, Fabrication, and Quality.
Support continued compliance with ISO 9001:2000 guidelines, assist in answering corrective actions, prepare procedures, reports, and plans.
Provide and/or coordinate required technical support for all machining and CNC programming staff.
Drive process improvements to reduce set up and machine cycle times.
Oversee cross training of machinists to achieve maximum flexibility in personnel.
Responsible to know and enforce all safety and environmental regulations.
Identify and build the business case for bringing new manufacturing technology and capacity into the shop
Provide the highest level of internal and external customer service.
Ensure Periodic Maintenance program is executed and documented.
Promote unity and positive morale.
Ensure cleanliness of work areas
Understanding of business concepts such as inventory procedures, MRP, and ROI calculations
Ensure performance to meet all production and prototyping requirements of machine shop

Experience:
