Description
Build the dataset intelligence layer behind Apple-scale foundation models: data mining, information extraction, dataset curation, and evaluation signal that helps models improve faster with less compute. You'll operate at petabyte/trillion-record scale and partner directly with foundation model researchers to turn model failures into targeted data interventions. form the backbone of Apple's search and foundation model platforms. As part of this team, you will own services, pipeline end-to-end-from initial design and architecture, through implementation, deployment, and long-term operation. You'll collaborate closely with Foundation Model research teams to optimize for cutting-edge model quality improvements.
Responsibilities
Design scalable data mining + information extraction systems over trillions of records to produce training corpora and high-signal subsets.
Build data quality loops - automatic filtering, algorithmic selection, and apply strategies tied to model evaluation outcomes.
Partner with Foundation model research to curate datasets for new architectures; ship production solutions powering real products.
Design, build, and operate large-scale distributed services that power Apple's search and foundation model platforms.
Build and evolve petabyte-scale data pipelines and feature pipelines and serve models.
Define and uphold SLAs for critical services & pipelines , driving reliability, performance, capacity planning for billions of daily requests.
Collaborate with cross-functional partners (research, engineering, program management, privacy, security) to design solutions that meet user, business, and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
PhD or MS in ML/CS or related with 10+ years of experience.
Proficiency in at least one modern programming language Python, Go, or Scala, with a focus on writing robust, maintainable code.
Proficiency in at least one popular ML framework such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX and an understanding of how ML/AI systems are deployed in production.
Familiarity with cloud - Kubernetes, GCP, AWS, Object stores.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills; able to work independently and cross-functionally with research, product, and operations teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with training-data curation, synthetic data strategies, or evaluation dataset filtering / subset selection.
MLOps from research prototype → production.
Familiarity with large-model serving/optimization stacks (TensorRT-LLM, vLLM, Triton)

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Here's what we're looking for:
8+ years of experience conducting statistical analyses on large datasets and deep domain knowledge in machine learning and artificial intelligence, including familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and their applications. This could mean either a MS or PhD in a quantitative field with at least 5 years experience in a business environment, or BS or Data Science Bootcamp graduate with at least 8 years of experience working as a data scientist or a machine learning engineer in a business setting.
Proven experience in credit risk modeling or fraud risk modeling using logistic regression, random forest, Xgboost or neural networks, along with a strong understanding of AI-based approaches and the potential of LLMs to enhance traditional models.
Experience applying a variety of statistical and modeling techniques using Python, R or another statistical modeling language, as indicated by familiarity with many of the following techniques - predictive modeling, anomaly detection, ensemble methods, natural language processing (NLP, optional). Basic understanding of LLMs and their applications.
Strong programming skills - comfortable with all phases of the data science development process, from initial analysis and model development to deployment

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $225,000 - $285,000 for San Francisco, New York, and Seattle, $205,000- $255,000 in Los Angeles, $187,000 - $235,000 in Denver, and $200,000 - $250,000 CAD for Toronto, Canada. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. The annual US base salary range for this role is $212,000 - $318,000. In this role, you will:

Experience and qualifications:
3+ years of experience machine learning engineering pipeline end-to-end in production environments (including feature engineering, model training, model scoring, model validation, etc.) and streaming application in a hybrid/cloud infrastructure
Bachelors or Masters degree in a technical area or relevant work experience
Command with Spark and how map-reduce works, how to evaluate, optimize, and debug Spark applications
Command with machine learning libraries such as PyTorch and Tensorflow, knowing common integration patterns for serving inference with them
Familiarity with data access such as defining IAM policies for S3 buckets
Can instrument streaming or parallel inference tasks to accommodate large traffic or volume of data
Understanding and designing moderately complex systems
The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $146,000.00 to $204,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $233,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role. Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.

In this role, you will be responsible for conducting applied NLP research to advance our Language AI features. The Role
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for providing engineering inputs integral to both small and large-scale hydro and dam projects. You will lead technical teams and mentor junior staff, support production, and coordinate delivery of engineering work products with multi-disciplinary project team members and external stakeholders. You will not only support and help grow the broader engineering team capabilities, but your particular focus will be on continuing the development of our hydropower capabilities and working with key staff in growing the business.
You'll also be involved in supporting project management duties, coordinating with internal and external clients as well as assisting with guiding and mentoring other engineers within the team. In this role you will lead teams conducting technical work involving turbines, generators, and their associated ancillary systems, as well as other balance of plant systems such as gates, hoists, cranes, pumping systems, lubrication systems, and other critical equipment at hydroelectric powerplants. You will lead teams conducting technical work for feasibility studies, engineering designs, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, and carrying out site visits and inspections. You will be working in a collaborative environment with a great team of engineers, technicians, scientists, and other industry-leading peers, and you will also interface directly with clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Design modifications to, or entirely new, mechanical systems related to dams, control structures, water retaining structures, and hydroelectric generating stations.
Execute multiple projects from the proposal stage through to completion. Projects will include a variety of small to large projects involving water resources, flood control, and hydroelectric sectors.
Conduct site investigations, condition assessments, and provide design and construction support.
Mechanical engineering design and refurbishment of cranes, hoists, hydroelectric turbines, generators, and other balance of plant systems.
Conduct feasibility studies for proposed designs and assess costs and benefits for alternatives in a systematic and thorough manner.
Preparation and review of reports.
Work collaboratively with other disciplines to execute project deliverables, as well as ensure that quality objectives, schedules, and budgets are met.
Edit and prepare design specifications.
Contribute to the development of the hydro-mechanical practice at KGS by assisting the US mechanical design lead by documenting technical knowledge, improving internal production processes, coordinating and developing internal training content, and other tasks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
About You
To fill the role, we're looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some highlights should include:
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university. A post-graduate degree would be an asset.
Minimum of 7-15 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Washington, Oregon, or California, as well as eligible for registration as a professional engineer in other states by comity through NCEES; or, if not already registered as a PE, would be able to obtain licensure within 1 year from date of hire.
Previous consulting experience is preferred, but not required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Must be self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision and manage several projects simultaneously.
Travel to project sites is usually limited but will be required at times depending on project/client requirements. The amount of travel time desired by our employees can usually be accommodated.
Must possess a valid driver's license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks.
Client interaction: must be able to effectively assume a lead role as project engineer at project meetings and communicate project and technical information.

ABOUT THE TEAM
Anduril's Lattice software platform integrates together many sensors into a single cohesive view of the world, providing needed context for our users. AI Engineers on Anduril's Frontier AI team build edge-compatible, generative AI systems into the Lattice software platform to provide features and products that improve autonomy and reduce cognitive burden on the warfighter. Specific applications include but are not limited to automating mission planning, battle-space understanding, voice-control of assets, and enabling higher-levels of autonomy.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Distill and fine-tune transformer architectures so they can be deployed onto edge devices or compute denied environments
Propose and prototype LLM-based Agentic systems that help solve real world problems, leveraging the latest state-of-the-art techniques in the field
Develop and maintain mission relevant benchmarks
Work cross-functionally with different business lines across Anduril to help discover and scope new research problems
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
BS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or related field
5+ years experience developing and benchmarking ML algorithms
Experience pushing and maintaining ML algorithms in production
Strong Python skills with experience in ML frameworks such as PyTorch
Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience fine-tuning transformer-based model Experience deploying deep-learning based models to edge devices or air gapped environments
Prior experience in defense tech or start-up
US Salary Range
$220,000 - $292,000 USD
The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full time offers; and are considered part of Anduril's total compensation package.
