Summary Receives direction from the Maintenance Supervisor. The primary responsibilities include setting up and operating tooling and fixtures for the Model Shop, and completing all assigned tasks in accordance with the Router and Blueprint. Must adhere to all Machine Shop processes, including but not limited to Work Instructions (WI), Manufacturing Instructions (MI), and Operating Procedures (OP). All tasks are to be performed accurately, promptly, and independently, without the need for further instruction. Essential Job Functions Receive, review, and interpret Work Orders and tooling requirements for set-up. Work under the guidance of a Machinist III. Fabricate tooling, fixtures, jigs, and models to support manufacturing operations. Operate conventional equipment such as lathes, Bridgeport-type horizontal mills, surface grinders, band saws, pedestal grinders, and related support equipment. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Read and interpret blueprints, including understanding geometric tolerances. Complete all required documentation, including Work Orders. Troubleshoot and evaluate machining issues, and clearly communicate any discrepancies. Use all necessary inspection equipment relevant to the task.     We're looking for a Senior 5-Axis Machinist who can own complex jobs from print to part: programming, setup, prove-out, and production, while maintaining tight tolerances and excellent finishes. You'll primarily run a Hermle C-400 (Heidenhain control) and support additional equipment including a Hyundai WIA HD 3100SY mill/turn and a Fanuc Robodrill. This is a hands-on role in a high-mix, low-volume environment where quality, process discipline, and problem-solving matter. Key Responsibilities Set up, operate, and maintain a Hermle C-400 5-axis machining center (Heidenhain control) to produce high-quality parts. Program and edit toolpaths in Fusion 360 and Esprit Edge, including 3+2 and full 5-axis strategies as needed. Set up and run a Hyundai WIA HD 3100SY (live tooling, 6" sub-spindle, Fanuc i-Series) for mill/turn work, part transfers, and process optimization. Set up and operate a Fanuc Robodrill (Fanuc Series 31i-Model B5) for production and support work. Interpret engineering drawings, models, and route sheets to execute precise machining tasks. Select tooling and work holding; set offsets; dial in feeds/speeds to optimize cycle time, tool life, and part accuracy. Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, bore gauges, etc.). Troubleshoot machining and process issues (chatter, tool wear, runout, alarms, dimensional drift) and implement corrective actions. Document setups and best practices (tool lists, work offsets, inspection notes) to support repeatability and team success. Collaborate with engineering and production to improve manufacturability, reduce scrap, and strengthen process capability. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; follow all safety standards and shop protocols. Support and mentor other machinists as needed to hit schedule and quality targets. Qualifications Proven CNC machining experience with strong capability in 5-axis setup and operation (Hermle experience is a big plus). Fusion 360 CAM proficiency (able to program, post, and adjust toolpaths; comfortable with prove-out and iteration on the floor). Experience with Heidenhain controls (or strong ability to ramp quickly). Solid mill/turn experience preferred-especially with live tooling and sub-spindle work (Hyundai WIA HD 3100SY or similar). Familiarity with Fanuc controls, ideally including Fanuc i-Series and Fanuc 31i platforms (Robodrill experience is a plus). Strong ability to read and interpret prints, GD&T, and technical specifications. Deep understanding of machining principles, tooling selection, workholding, and material behavior. Skilled in precision measurement and inspection; high attention to detail and pride in workmanship. Able to work independently, communicate clearly, and collaborate in a fast-moving team environment. Previous experience in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment is a plus.
