Check-Mate Manufacturing has openings position for Tool and Die Maker. This position reporting to the Tooling Manager, the Tool and Die Maker has a Journeymen license or has completed formal apprenticeship program. Tool and Die Maker builds, repairs, and maintains: dies, fixtures, and all other tooling in conformance to customer and/or company specifications per control plans. Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to makes and repairs dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools. Maintains a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with procedures and safety regulations.

Skills and Competencies
Tool and die maker ability to read tool and die designs and prints
Tool and die maker basic shop math and trigonometry
Tool and die maker ability to use precise measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks, dial indicators, etc.
Tool and die maker ability to operate all standard tool room equipment such as milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders, lathes, etc. CNC machine set up a plus
Tool and die maker must have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Tool and die maker general knowledge of tool and die design including various tool steels/carbides and their application is a plus
Tool and die maker able to work independently and be self-motivated

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Journeyman Tool & Die Maker and/ or completion of an apprenticeship (4 years) or advanced manufacturing certificate, followed by at least 4 years of on-the-job training
5 years' experience in the trade; emphasis on small precision stampings from progressive dies
An ability to communicate effectively in English both in writing and verbally (Preferred)
Knowledge/ experience with of AutoCAD, Solid works, and EDM (a Plus

REQUIREMENTS
1 Operates machining centers to machine parts used on 5/8" through 2" meters.
2 Conducts visual checks of all parts for quality issues.
3 Loads parts, brass casings, and spud caps, into machines.
4 Gauges product to ensure accuracy of machining process at required intervals throughout the shift, using go/no
go gages, electronic gages, calipers, tap and spud gages, CMM, etc.
5 Makes adjustments to tools when needed, using a tool setter to make precision adjustments.
6 Starts and observes machine operation to observe the machine process, detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance
machining, and adjusts machine controls as required.
7 Changes tools at required intervals, when quality problems indicate tool change is needed, and when tools break or otherwise malfunction.
8 Works in teams as machine operators, to produce quality parts, shorten downtime for changeovers, solve problems, and meet on-time delivery goals.
9 Works safely to prevent on-the-job injuries by wearing PPE (gloves, aprons, safety glasses).
10 After setup, operates machine to verify first piece accuracy of machine settings and documents results as required.
11 Changes over machines to produce the next scheduled part.
12 Maintains daily production log, documenting downtime and production as required.
13 Records tool changes, recording in either log or computer, as required.
14 Troubleshoots work-related problems by looking at production sheet, making visual quality checks, listening for malfunctions & relying on work experience to identify probable causes, and discussing possible problems/solutions with other operators.
15 Maintains clean work area, following prescribed 5S housekeeping guidelines.
16 Reads blueprints and product quality plans to check parts for adherence to quality standards.

Work is routine and machining is performed to ordinary tolerances. Requires basic knowledge of various metals and of measurements used in machining processes. + Lead teams on industry field trips and host/lead workshops for both industry and academia.
+ Work with students, faculty and industry to develop unique prototypes and limited production runs.
**Machining & Fabrication**
+ Operate manual and CNC machines (milling, turning, drilling, grinding,EDM , Swiss, 5-axis milling, complex lathes with live tooling and state of the art 5 axis waterjet).
+ Set up and troubleshoot CNC programs using G-code; adjust tool and part offsets. Troubleshoot equipment.
+ Perform all levels of classic manual machining and metrology using calipers, micrometers, gauge blocks, and microscopes. Perform all levels of maintenance on all the machines and equipment in the facility.
**Design & Programming**
+ Create and interpret detailed engineering drawings, including GD&T standards.
+ Documented training in GD&T standards
+ UseCAD /CAM software (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, MasterCAM, AutoCAD PowerMill) for design and manufacturing programs.
+ Program and operate coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and 3D scanners.
**Quality & Troubleshooting**
+ Review and correct engineering drawings for manufacturability.
+ Troubleshoot machining and programming issues across various platforms.
+ Certify GD&T drawings and ensure surface finish quality using precision instruments.
