Follow established work procedures and contribute to a culture of continuous quality improvement. Mentor and assist in developing the skills of fellow team members. Promote innovation and efficiency improvements within the department. Support waste reduction initiatives by controlling materials and consumables. Assist in maintaining department equipment and ensuring its proper care and use. Contribute actively toward the team goal of delivering vessels on time and to the highest quality standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area with tools and equipment properly stored and protected. Adhere to company guidelines for both on-site and off-site assignments. Perform work compliant with NAVSEA Standard Items when applicable. Travel to off-site work locations as required. Requirements: Minimum five (5) years of relevant trade experience, two (2) years of shipbuilding experience, comparable apprenticeship training, or one (1) year experience as a B-Class Outside Machinist. Demonstrated expertise in shaft alignment techniques, including the use of laser alignment systems and dial indicators. Working knowledge of machining procedures and mechanical systems. Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with ship terminology. Proven ability to interpret engineering drawings and job specifications. Ability to safely operate and set up fixed and portable machinery to meet precision tolerances. Competence in reading and understanding written instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Basic math skills, including the ability to use the metric system. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to follow verbal and written directions with minimal supervision. Ability and willingness to travel for temporary off-site assignments, following company policy.
