Responsibilities:
Lead and motivate a team of Machinists to technical excellence in both the development and production of propulsion hardware.
Establish a culture of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC), in that order.
Create and maintain the 5S Standard Work to ensure work center cleanliness and organization. Conduct regular self-inspections and assessments to ensure that the manufacturing floor is ALWAYS ready for an outside inspection, regulatory audit, or high-profile tour.
Create and regularly update the Technician Training Matrix. Ensure that each Technician has a growth plan that aligns to business needs for cross-training and personal strengths.
Create and maintain an Action Item list, specifying WHO does WHAT by WHEN to ensure the Machine Shop executes each assigned task and completes each goal. Publish visually and review with the Machine Shop Senior Manager each day to drive radical accountability.
Programming & machining of critical, tight-tolerance rocket engine components, including 3D printed components.
Work with challenging alloys (nickel superalloys & titanium) and develop core machining strategies for Ursa's part portfolio
Programming for milling & turning operations, operation of millturn machines.
Utilization of probing routines to reduce setup & time required to achieve tight tolerances.
Contribute to overall shop operations including tool & workholding procurement, equipment maintenance, etc.
Design & implement palletized, modular, or otherwise rapidly interchangeable workholding solutions for intricate components.
Appreciate both engineering & manufacturability challenges, provide impactful manufacturing feedback & guidance to the engineering group.
Work alongside quality inspection to resolve non-conformance root causes and continually improve machining yield & quality
Required Qualifications:
Must be able to work 12-hour shifts on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays consistently.
5+ years' experience in an aerospace machining or manufacturing environment.
Prior experience leading a team of machinists in daily direction of the development and production of hardware
Experience with multi-axis & millturn machines and programming.
Experience with modern multi-axis CAM packages & toolpath simulation.

About the Role
At H3X, we are building the most advanced electric motors in the world for sustainable aviation, marine, industrial, and defense applications. At 12 kW/kg continuous, the HPDM family of integrated motor drives is a step change in electric propulsion technology and removes one of the main barriers blocking widespread proliferation of electric and hybrid aircraft. Our motors range in size from 30 kW to 30 MW, include integrated drives, and are 3X lighter than competitors' systems.
We are looking to hire an R&D Machinist who will be responsible for fabrication of parts, machine setups, fixturing, and upkeep of the H3X machine shop. The ideal candidate has 5-7 years of experience in a shop environment, be experienced with a range of machining practices and pay great attention to detail. This is a dynamic role that will apply machining practices in a variety of ways and must be flexible to adjust to critical-path deliverables and quick-turn machining operations.
Responsibilities
Setup, program, and run CNC machining centers, manual mills and lathes, and other shop equipment.
Machine a broad range of materials, including exotic metals.
Produce precision components (down to .0005”) from prints, modify existing parts, and inspect form and fit.
Make, modify, or improvise tooling and fixtures when needed to complete assignments.
Solve problems creatively, coming up with solutions to design issues related to machinability.
Perform inspection of products using equipment such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, surface plates, & bench centers as required as per GD&T standards.
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and tools.
Manage tooling, stock, and machines within shop.
Work closely with Engineers to optimize design, workflow, and part production.
Required Qualifications

Duties include but are not limited to:
Reads and understands blueprint, job routings, tooling instructions, and standard charts for such specifications as dimensions, tolerances, and tooling instructions such as type of holding fixtures, cutting speeds, feed rates, and cutting tools to be used.
Follows established fabrication procedures and standards.
Gives feedback on programming or setup changes.
Load and set tools while understanding run-out, tool length stick-outs, and proper hold based on what the tool is doing.
Positions and secures tools in tool holders on turret and cross slides.
Load and execute programs.
Recognize, understand and properly adjust dull or chipped tooling.
Set and adjust work offsets, tool wear lengths, and comp cutter.
Indexes turret and adjusts work shift offsets of tools at each station.
Perform Quality Control Characteristics documentation of tolerance zones specified on blueprints.
Set up and operate machine tools including 4-axis and 5-axis machines
Set up and operate machine tools and machines, make fixtures, and assemble fixtures for experimental purposes.
Modify tools as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Education/ Experience & Qualifications:
A minimum of a high school diploma plus 1-3 years of experience in a machine shop environment is required. However, a combination of education and experience will be taken into consideration
Must possess an understanding of basic machine implements- keys, threads, bearing fit and bushings as well as basic geometry.
Applicants must be able to use measuring instruments such as micrometers, bore micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, calipers, gauge pins, and indicators.
Possess an understanding of G and M codes, machine and fixturing set-up, canned cycles, and work offset coordinate system
Ability to read and understand prints and tolerances.
Applicants must have exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills and the ability to think independently
