Wire EDM Machinist

PURPOSE OF POSTION
The Wire EDM Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating Fanuc Wire EDM machines to fabricate precision components, tooling, and production parts. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate part fabrication, supporting tool repair, mold building, and prototype production while maintaining high-quality standards. The machinist is expected to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-precision environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Machining Setup and Operation:
• Set up and operate Fanuc Wire EDM machines according to specifications.
• Run other equipment as needed when EDM machines are in use (includes production and tooling tasks).
• Perform regular maintenance and calibration of EDM equipment.
Programming and Technical Tasks:
• Create and edit programs using Fanuc CAM/i software.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to equipment and machining performance.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and job specifications to ensure accuracy.
• Maintain up-to-date inspection and setup sheets.
Quality and Process Control:
• Monitor output to ensure components meet required specifications and tolerances.
• Document all processes and inspections in accordance with company standards.
• Promote and maintain a clean and organized workspace in accordance with 5S principles.
Other Responsibilities:
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the shift lead or supervisor.
• Support tool room projects, including mold and die repairs.
Requirements
Skills and Attributes:
• Proficient in operating and programming Fanuc Wire EDMs.
• Strong knowledge of machining principles, tooling, and work holding.

Education and Experience:
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with Wire EDM operation and programming.

DUTIES
Set up, maintain set up and operate above described machines to produce parts for production assemblies from documents such as CNC programs, production routings, blueprints and specific verbal and written instructions.
Inspect representative first run parts for compliance with print specifications on dimensional tolerances and surface finishes.
Make modification to program when required.
Run multiple machines and deburr the parts presently working on as required by the production routing, when the cycle time allows.
Perform inspection as required to in-process material.
Similar or less skilled work within classification as required.
Perform all types of drilling, pinning, reaming, counter boring, tapping, tumbling, sand blasting, vibratory finishing, and alodine / irridite touch-up operations on piece parts for product assemblies using documents such as blueprints, production routings, specific written instructions and verbal instructions. Prepare materials and parts for surface treating.
Mix and change solutions as required.
Perform deburring and polishing using documents such as production routings, blueprints and specific written instructions and verbal instructions.
Keep records as required; maintain parts and paperwork on several jobs simultaneously so that they do not become mixed.
Fills raw material requisitions from proper lot of materials.
Repackage, identify and store raw materials in proper locations.

Job Summary:
The Manual Machinist will be responsible for setting up and operating various manual machining equipment, including lathes, milling machines, and surface grinders, to produce precision components according to technical specifications and engineering drawings. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of machining processes, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, and other machining equipment to produce/repair parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
- Perform measurements using calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure compliance with tolerances and quality standards.
- Monitor machining operations and make adjustments as necessary to maintain production quality and efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineers and production staff to develop efficient machining processes and improve production standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety protocols at all times.
- Document production data and maintain accurate records of work performed, including time and materials used.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training or coursework in machining is beneficial.
- Proven experience as a Manual Machinist, with a minimum of 3 years in a similar role preferred
- Proficiency in operating manual lathes, mills, and grinders.
- Strong knowledge of machining principles, tools, and techniques.
- Familiarity with measuring instruments and quality control processes.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
- Ability to lift heavy materials and work in a physically demanding environment.

Education/Certification
High school graduate or equivalent
Experience
2 - 6 years machine shop experience in all phases of machining, including 3 years of CNC experience or journeymen machinist.
Skills/Competencies
Ability to read, interpret and understand blueprints.
Ability to work with small precision parts to very close tolerances.
Capability to use basic inspection tools and techniques.
Capacity to understand and follow through with verbal or written instructions. Good understanding of shop math.
Proficient with interpersonal relations, organization and communication skills.
