In this role, you will be responsible for machining and manufacturing products for customers in a cost-efficient manner. This role requires proficiency in setting up and operating manual machine shop equipment. Successful candidates are self-motivated and skilled in using calibrated equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers) to measure component characteristics and ensure conformance prior to assembly. Additional competencies include interpreting manufacturing drawings, service manuals, and work instructions.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
Manufacturing customer parts efficiently to meet quality standards and routed hours, supporting company profitability.
Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and keep it clean and in good operating condition.
Ensure manufactured work meets customer requirements; report nonconformances to the Quality Department before inspection.
Document work activity using manufacturing IT systems (e.g., routers, forms).
Log time accurately on router operations using scanners and input stations.
Complete daily production tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Adhere to all company safety policies and contribute to safety improvements (e.g., Job Safety Analyses).
Collaborate with the supervisor on process improvement ideas to enhance departmental efficiency.
Maintain a clean work area and apply 5S principles daily.
Stay aware of the Quality Management System and your role in supporting the Quality Policy.
Complete and maintain all required reports and records (e.g., Quality Plans, ITPs, routers, inspection reports).
Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
Proficient in using inspection tools (micrometers, Vernier calipers, gauges).
Ability to interpret manufacturing drawings, schematics, and GD&T.
For CNC Machinists:
- Verify CNC technology readiness and optimization, report issues or improvement needs.
- Ensure programming is completed before releasing jobs for production.
Skilled in general hand tool usage (must have tools).
Understand and follow quality system procedures, work instructions, and process maps.
Knowledge of ISO 9001 and API Q1 standard requirements.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to read and write in English.

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); VoTech Trade school graduate preferred. Completed a machining related apprenticeship program or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to present numerical data effectively and write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. About the Role: Hitachi Energy in Alamo, TN is seeking a Weekend Machinist to join its team. This role is responsible for taking the raw stock and machine it to the desired dimensions for assembly into the various products made at Hitachi Energy Alamo Facility.
Responsibilities:
* Proficient in CNC, lathes, machine centers, quality, safety, blueprint interpretation from engineering as required
* Successfully complete in-house machinist exercise on all machining equipment in the section.
* Work from Work Center Dispatch and print feeders for work orders.
* Purchase aluminum stock, brass, bronze and cast-iron materials, raw steel, copper stock, and cleaning agents
* Set up, adjust, or operate basic or specialized machine tools used to perform precision machining operations
* May provide information to drafting, engineering, and the supervisor
* Normal supervision on routine assignments. Receives technical information form engineering as required
* Calculate dimensions or tolerances, using instruments, such as micrometers or vernier caliper
* Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition
* Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines
* Must meet the requirements of a Code 9 machinist and acceptably meet the requirements of the proficiency machinist standards in productivity
* Dispose of scrap or waste material in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations
* Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to fabricate products
Requirements:
* Associate's degree in engineering, manufacturing, or relevant industry or graduate from a trade school covering standard and computer-controlled metal working equipment or demonstrated knowledge
* One year of machining experience preferred
* Manufacturing experience preferred
