Purpose
Ability to machine, mill, and grind various types of metals. Primarily 1st shift schedule, could include 2nd, 3rd, split shifts, weekends, holidays, 12 hour shifts. Daily work activity is directed by the Group Leader and a Maintenance Machinist A. Reports directly to the department Manager.
Job Responsibilities
Performs all tasks under general supervision.
Provides training and assistance to less experienced Machinists.
Assumes ownership of work task and demonstrates initiative to get work completed.
Creates and reworks machinery and equipment components according to requisition documentation, blueprints, or other drawings.
Sets up equipment operation feed, speed and temperature.
Follows established procedures for operating various conventional and/or CNC (computerized numerical control) manufacturing equipment for tasks such as cutting, punching, forming, drilling, tapping, turning, milling, grinding, and stamping to fabricate, form or shape manufactured parts, tools or parts assemblies from raw materials.
Selects and measures raw materials and parts to specifications to prepare for production processing.
Performs reworking and machining of new and spare production parts for departments.
Repairs maintenance parts as needed.
Verifies the accuracy of work by using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and various measuring instruments.
Order and maintain project related material as required.
Assist with keeping neat and orderly records on work performed and repairs made.
Work with Engineering, Production Team Leads, Managers, Group Leaders, and fellow tradesmen to accomplish the desired result.
Adjust schedule and work hours to accomplish the desired result, must be able to work weekends and holidays as required.
Perform work assignments efficiently while being consistent with good safety practices.
Report any maintenance and/or safety issues to supervisor.
Review, understand, and follow all Company specifications and procedures, and regulatory rules and requirements that are associated with the performance of this job.

Basic Requirements
Must pass the skilled trade assessment test for this position.
Must have a basic knowledge and experience reading mechanical drawings.
Must have a basic knowledge and experience in proper machining and grinding techniques (Feed rates, sequencing, cutting speeds).
Must have a basic knowledge and experience in setting up machine tools to produce precision parts.
Must have a basic knowledge and experience in writing and modifying machine programs.
Must be able to use math to calculate dimensions and determine speeds and feed rates.
Ability to use various measuring devices (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.)

As a Tool & Die Maker, you will support manufacturing by constructing and machining details for dies. Repairs and builds dies as well as prototypes. Operates tool room machinery to finish precision details used to repair and maintain dies. Assists in troubleshooting die issues at the press to maintain quality and production. Understands die functions and structure by studying prints of die, product, and prototypes; applies knowledge of materials, machining concepts and assembly methods, and mathematics.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (% of Time)
Select, dress, set up, and use grinding wheels for surface grinding, and form grinding. Hand grind, polish and finish die components. (30%)
Perform die maintenance such as cleaning, inspection, sharpening, and preventive maintenance. Die repair, reconstruction and restoration of damaged dies as needed. (30%)
Machines parts by using lathe, mill, drill press, and other typical shop equipment. (20%)
Confirm assembly by verifying dimensions, clearances, and alignment of parts and components with micrometers, thickness gauges, gauge blocks, and dial indicators. Confirm performance of die at the press, check clearances, inspect operation, make adjustments, and compare finished product to specifications. (20%)

Maintain an accurate daily log of parts processed, significant dimensions, machining parameters, and general information pertaining to the operation performed.
De-burr parts using hand tools, air grinders, and manual machine operation.
Perform preventive and routine maintenance to maintain machine performance.
Perform daily housekeeping tasks to provide a safe, clean, and orderly workplace.
Perform related duties as assigned by management.
Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma, GED, or vocational school graduate with coursework in mechanical drawing, shop mathematics, and machining practices.
One to two years of prior machining experience.
Experience with precision measuring equipment and reading plots and/or blueprints.
Attention to detail is required to prevent damage to parts and machine tools.
Ability to obtain a forklift operator's license and operate a forklift safely when applicable.
Physical Requirements
Regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
Frequently required to stoop, climb, reach at or above shoulder level, and push or pull wheeled items weighing up to 100 pounds.
Occasionally required to squat, kneel, and lift up to 60 pounds independently or up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Repetitive actions include simple grasping, firm grasping, and fine manipulation.
Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
