    JOB TITLE: Machinist 2nd Shift Weekends (This shift will consist of working 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM for a daily total of 12 hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but will receive pay for 40 hours. This position also includes a shift differential of $2/hr. for those working the weekend evening shift). OBJECTIVE: This position is for machinists with a minimum of 3 years' experience. To mill, drill, bore, or ream parts from extrusions, bar stock, forging, plate, assemblies, or composites that meet or exceed the specifications of our customers using multi-axis CNC machines. SPECIAL WORK CONDITIONS AND AMERICANS WITH DISABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Prolonged periods of standing, stooping, crouching, bending, and stretching. Lifting up to 50 lb. without assistance and over 50 lb. with assistance. Constant exposure to general shop conditions, including machine noise and metal dust. Constant repetitive use of hands, wrists, and arms. Follows instructions from planning, setup sheets, shop charts, and verbal instructions. Be familiar with multiple machine controls Perform the necessary actions to find and load the correct program from the DNC and understand the process for removing old programs from the machine control. Set up, with full to moderate assistance, the operations required to produce a quality part. Maintain quality standards, focusing on reducing the number of defects due to workmanship. A basic to advanced working knowledge of the various precision measuring tools used within the department. Understand what to check and when to use the various precision measuring instruments to ensure a quality part is being produced. Keep all company-owned and personal precision measuring equipment calibrated. Perform preventive maintenance on the equipment from the checklist on the machine. Maintain good housekeeping practices to promote a safe, well-organized work area. Safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, earplugs, aprons, gloves, and any other safety-related items as defined by the supervisor/lead person will be required. Proper disposal of hazardous waste as defined by supervisor/lead person as well as how to find and use the Safety Data Sheets. Basic knowledge of shop math and how to apply it. (SAE and Metric dimensioning) Knowledge of the different types of tools and tool holders, as well as our tool setting procedures. Demonstrate good communication with supervisor/co-workers and use time wisely. Work overtime as required to meet the customer schedule. Learn and adhere to company policies and procedures as defined in the company handbook. Machinist Level II: Typical Job Requirements Retain and perform all typical basic job requirements with minimal assistance based on area and degree of difficulty. Capable of setting up and performing the requirements of new or difficult product families with moderate to minimal assistance. Demonstrate good communication skills with supervisor/lead person, co-workers, and support departments. Show and maintain value-added time management skills. Achieve and maintain quality throughout the entire production process by verifying customer requirements using precision measuring equipment. Maintain a high standard of quality by meeting or exceeding expectations of scrap parts due to workmanship. Advanced shop math skills. Become proficient on one machine or machine control, with minimal assistance required to produce parts on that machine. Must also have a working knowledge of at least two other machines or machine controls. Capable of training new employees on Level I tasks. Advanced blueprint capabilities, including the ability to find or calculate missing dimensions. Ability to work with the following departments: tooling, quality, engineering, scheduling, and other departments as necessary. Be aware of upcoming part numbers to evaluate if problems could arise. Maintain a logbook of problems encountered during the production run and communicate these issues to Lead Person/Supervisor/Engineering/Programming. Evaluate methods to improve the maximum amount of the internal setup time to external setup time and decrease production times where possible. Troubleshoot quality problems. Maintains At or Above Expectations on reviews and has no open reprimands. Maintains the shop average efficiencies. Education & Experience High School or equivalent. Typically, two to five years experience. Completion of any assigned training. (Blueprint, math, SPC, etc.) Machinist Level III: Typical Job Requirements Retain and perform all of Level II typical job requirements with minimal assistance based on area and degree of difficulty. Capable of training entry-level and Level I to Level II operators. Proficient at three or more machines or machine controls and can move around the department as needed to run the more complicated work. Lead or assist on new projects. Capable of setting up and performing all the requirements of new or difficult product families with minimal assistance. Ability to work closely with the following departments to maintain shop production: tooling, quality, engineering, scheduling, and other departments. Ability to perform shop floor editing and programming as required to maintain throughput or to build needed items to improve quality or productivity. Demonstrate basic lead-person (leadership) skills, i.e., fill in as lead person when required. Demonstrate good work ethics and lead by example. Evaluate setup and run documents as well as our processes, and make changes as required to improve quality or productivity. Maintain at or above average shop efficiencies. Consistently scores Above Expectations on reviews. No attendance issues Proficient at documenting Critical Problem Reports, Planning Change Requests, and Process Improvements Requests. Be able to plan the next setup(s) and ensure that the following are up-to-date and available: setup packet, programs, prints, charts, fixtures, cutters, and cams, etc. Education & Experience High School or equivalent Same as Level II, with the addition of courses or seminars in supervisory, communication, and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) training. Ability to run manufacturing software. Typically, a minimum of five to seven years of experience.

This position will set-up and operate a variety of computer-controlled and mechanically-controlled machine tools to produce precision metal parts, instruments and tools of the highest quality standards. This position will regularly interact and problem solve with cross-functional team members across Viega. What You'll Do: Translate the information from blueprints, sketches, specifications and CAD/CAM files to the production of precision tools & dies. Compute and verify dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of workpieces. Ability to set up, operate, and conversationally program conventional, manual, and computer-numeric controlled (CNC) machines and equipment. File, grind and adjust parts so that they fit together properly. Quality check completed tools and dies to ensure that they meet specifications. Smooth and polish the surfaces of tools and dies. Works cooperatively with a wide variety of Viega departments and outside vendors. Preparing raw materials and tools prior to machining, cutting or deburring. Other Attends meetings as required and/or assigned. Performs other duties as required and/or assigned Special Job Dimensions Will be required to travel up to 20%, including international travel. What You'll Do: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficient in programming and operation of CNC equipment, including 5-axis machining. Ability to fixture and design methods of manufacturing complex parts Ability to read and interpret blueprints and CAD/CAM drawings Ability to multitask and prioritize to manage multiple projects/assignments. Ability to work independently and make competent decisions. Strong communication skills to facilitate understanding and problem-solving with cross-functional teams and colleagues.
