Position Summary
ITT Micro-Mode is seeking a CNC Swiss Screw Setup Machinist to join our precision manufacturing team in El Cajon, CA. This role is responsible for both setup and operation of Citizen R04 and R07 Swiss-style CNC machines to produce small, high-precision components for business-critical applications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Swiss-type lathes, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to independently manage setups, troubleshoot issues, and ensure consistent part quality in a fast-paced production environment.
Essential Responsibilities
Set up and operate Citizen R04 and R07 Swiss-style CNC machines to manufacture precision components.
Interpret blueprints, CAD models, and setup sheets to ensure accurate machining and part conformance
Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machine offsets for each job.
Perform first-article inspections and make necessary adjustments to ensure compliance with specifications.
Monitor machine operations and make real-time adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
Troubleshoot and resolve setup and machining issues independently.
Document setup procedures and best practices for repeatability and training purposes.
Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and quality personnel to optimize machining strategies.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with 5S and safety standards.
Perform routine machine maintenance and proactively report mechanical issues.
Mentor and support junior machinists and operators as needed.
Participate in Lean, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement initiatives.

Position Requirements
High School diploma or GED required; technical training or certification preferred.
Minimum of 5-7 years of CNC machining experience, with at least 3 years operating and setting up Swiss-style CNC machines.
Strong experience with Citizen R04 and/or R07 machines.
Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and GD&T.
Deep understanding of CNC controls, tooling, and machining principles.
Skilled in using precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.

What Does the Job Involve?
The CNC Machinist III is responsible for the set up and operation of computer numerical control (CNC) machines to include Lathe, Mill and Vertical Turret Lathes (VTL.) Operates the machine and produces precision metal parts and materials. Determines dimensions and tolerances of material for machining, sequences of operations required by studying specifications such as blueprints and sketches. Follows instructions outlined in routers and technical planning documents and adhere to established specifications. Executes complex to potentially difficult machining assignments using machine tools ranging from multiple axis lathes to mills. Uses precision measuring tools to check accuracy of work.
What will my responsibilities include?
Sets-up, adjusts and operates machine controls to position tools or regulate cutting depth, speed, feed or coolant flow to produce precision metal parts and materials as specified by work order, blueprints, drawing, templates or layout.
Mounts, aligns, and secures tooling, attachments and work-piece on machine chuck. Starts and stops automatic operation of numerical control machine parts or test setup, work-piece dimensions or programming. May adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machine malfunctions.
Monitors and maintains machines during use in order to diagnose machine malfunctions, need for adjustments or repairs. May perform routine machine maintenance including checking coolant and positioning of machine.
Demonstrates ability to start and stop automatic operation of numerical control machine or test set up, work-piece dimensions or programming.
Ensures proper dimensions of finished material to ensure conformance to specifications.
May clean machine, tooling and parts and area surrounding machine in accordance with 5S procedures.

Set up machine and produce parts of semi-routine in nature according to blueprints; uploading and downloading programs from Direct Numerical Control (DNC) to machines as applicable; edit programs as necessary to optimize program efficiency and part quality; inspect machined parts for conformity and quality using precision measuring instruments, video comparator and Coordinated Measuring Machines (CMM);
Verify paperwork, assure traveler part number, matching drawing number, and revision level; inspect machined parts to predetermined specifications per drawing; modify and rework parts and fixtures; Package material following prescribed packaging process.
Write semi-routine programs using software such as Proto-Trak software, MDI mode; program, set up, and operate Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machines by selecting proper programs, tooling, fixturing, and set the machine tool.
Design and fabricate parts, special tooling, and fixtures for use in subsequent machining operations; may perform trigonometry to calculate angles and distances for cutting machining parts.

Maintain workstation, equipment, tools, and machinery.

Job Duties
Machinist is a member of the Atomic Machine Manufacturing Team and responsible for all activities related to manufacturing machined parts. Machinist operate and maintain machines, run parts, and ensure all parts meet Huish Outdoors's quality and dimensional standards. This position plays a key role on our team producing products that deliver WOW to our customers. Candidates should have an attention to detail and a willingness to jump in and help the team meet deadlines.
Deliver on KPIs for the Machine Manufacturing department, including but not limited to, turn-around times, safety, quality, production volumes, accuracy and material use, as guided by your supervisor.
