Purpose
Ability to machine, mill, and grind various types of metals. Primarily 1st shift schedule, could include 2nd, 3rd, split shifts, weekends, holidays, 12 hour shifts. Daily work activity is directed by the Group Leader and a Maintenance Machinist A. Reports directly to the department Manager.
Job Responsibilities
Performs all tasks under general supervision.
Provides training and assistance to less experienced Machinists.
Assumes ownership of work task and demonstrates initiative to get work completed.
Creates and reworks machinery and equipment components according to requisition documentation, blueprints, or other drawings.
Sets up equipment operation feed, speed and temperature.
Follows established procedures for operating various conventional and/or CNC (computerized numerical control) manufacturing equipment for tasks such as cutting, punching, forming, drilling, tapping, turning, milling, grinding, and stamping to fabricate, form or shape manufactured parts, tools or parts assemblies from raw materials.
Selects and measures raw materials and parts to specifications to prepare for production processing.
Performs reworking and machining of new and spare production parts for departments.
Repairs maintenance parts as needed.
Verifies the accuracy of work by using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and various measuring instruments.
Order and maintain project related material as required.
Assist with keeping neat and orderly records on work performed and repairs made.
Work with Engineering, Production Team Leads, Managers, Group Leaders, and fellow tradesmen to accomplish the desired result.
Adjust schedule and work hours to accomplish the desired result, must be able to work weekends and holidays as required.
Perform work assignments efficiently while being consistent with good safety practices.
Report any maintenance and/or safety issues to supervisor.
Review, understand, and follow all Company specifications and procedures, and regulatory rules and requirements that are associated with the performance of this job.

Basic Requirements
Must pass the skilled trade assessment test for this position.
Must have a basic knowledge and experience reading mechanical drawings.
Must have a basic knowledge and experience in proper machining and grinding techniques (Feed rates, sequencing, cutting speeds).
Must have a basic knowledge and experience in setting up machine tools to produce precision parts.
Must have a basic knowledge and experience in writing and modifying machine programs.

Follow Instructions from previous Shift:
Instructions concerning where to continue running part.
What operations need completed.
Observe machines regularly throughout the shift for:
Inserts/Tooling Wear (Change as needed)
End of operation (Check part to print)
Program issues that may occur
Fill out paperwork during each shift:
Time Tracking SheetDetailed notes for next operator to know what issues happened on off shift, what operation part is on, etc.
Time TicketDocumentation of jobs worked on throughout shift (How you get paid)
Non-ConformancesRed tag to identify scrap or rework parts due to tooling, operator issues, or program issues.
Work OrdersMachinery/Equipment that is not functioning properly.
Clean area when time permits
Follow all company safety protocol.

Key Responsibilities * Machine Operation: Efficiently operate multiple machines, maintaining productivity and quality standards. * CNC Programming & Operation: Program, set up, and operate CNC machines using G code and conversational programming. * Blueprint Reading: Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and sketches to determine the necessary operations and tools required for machining. * Precision Machining: Machine parts to tight tolerances, using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify accuracy. * Tooling Preparation: Prepare tooling requirements as specified in the setup instructions provided with each job order. * Part Preparation: Manually insert parts into work holding devices as per instructions for each assignment. * Machining Process: Execute the machining process, performing first article inspections and subsequent machining of components after approval from the Quality Assurance department. Conduct in-process inspections to ensure integrity throughout the lot/batch of parts. * Multi-Tasking: * Keep multiple pallets loaded and ready for machining, depending on the machine being operated (2-15 pallets). * Record start and end times associated with each operation using a barcoded job order system. * Material Handling: Operate dollies, pallet jacks, and forklifts as needed for material handling. * Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor. As a Machinist for HECO you will identify problems and make necessary adjustments as they relate to industrial AC/DC electric motors and generators.
You will use a variety of manual machine tools and balancing equipment for rotating machinery, while following service center safety procedures.
You will need to have excellent attention to detail and an ability to work from drawings, sketches, and blueprints.
Core duties include:
