* Read and interpret design drawings, blueprints, and procedures.
* Perform calculations to determine accurate setups and layouts for machining tasks.

What you will do:
Operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts for electro-mechanical products. Tasks will include machining, welding, and inspection of subassemblies and assemblies as requested by your supervisor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While the work area is normally clean, safe and not loud there are machines making parts so some noise and metal flakes can be expected.

AMG is an Employee-Owned company that has been doing business in Central Virginia for the past 48 years. AMG, Inc. is looking to hire an experienced Machinist B to run a mill in our Roanoke Facility. The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of mill experience. This position will work a 10-hour shift Monday - Thursday, with as needed overtime on Friday. General Function: Setup and operate manual and CNC grinding machines to perform precision ID, OD, form, and surface grinding. Study blueprint or layout to visualize grinding to be done and plan sequence of operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
Safety is our first priority. Employees must be able to operate machinery safely and follow all established Safety Policies and Procedures.
Setup and operate manual and CNC precision grinding equipment to perform precision ID, OD, form grinding, multi-axis grinding, and flat surface grinding.
Experience with the setup and operation of precision grinding equipment.
Experience with the use of diamond and other super-abrasive grinding wheels.
Experience with grinding a full range of both soft and hard metals such as aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, hardened tool steel, tungsten carbide, and other ultra-hard exotic materials.
Dressing of abrasive wheels including the use of dressing diamonds and rotary dressing wheels for straight dressing, angle dressing, and form dressing.
Study blueprint or layout to visualize grinding to be done and plan sequence of operations including work-holding arrangements and cutting process parameters.
Perform plunge grinding, traverse grinding, face grinding, form grinding, multi-axis grinding, and angle grinding.
Recognize and address abrasive wheel wear.
Program CNC grinding machines on the shop floor when necessary.
Proper use of precision measuring instruments such as micrometer, indicator, bore gauge, height stand, gauge blocks, gauge pins etc. while working to tolerances of .0001”.
Selection and use of equipment such as grinding magnets, grinding vises, sine plates and various specialty fixtures.
Possess trigonometry, geometry, and general math skills to perform necessary angular and position calculations to achieve workpiece blueprint specifications.
Understand and correct for unexpected taper and other inaccuracies in grinding.
Selection and use of various wheel types and styles including knowledge of abrasives, speeds & feeds, and other application parameters.
Understand and implement general machine set-up principles.
Operate multiple machines simultaneously.
Must keep assigned machine(s) and work area cleaned and neat.

Physical Requirements:
Requires long periods of standing (up to 10 hours/day)
Must be able to operate overhead cranes
Although all production areas have overhead cranes, on occasion Manufacturing, Stockroom and Assembly employees may choose to lift items by hand for convenience. It is the responsibility of all employees to follow correct lifting techniques and seek help or utilize mechanical lifting aids as appropriate to avoid potential injury.
Requires good eye, hand coordination

AMG, Inc. is seeking a skilled TRAK Lathe Operator to join our 1st shift machining team at our Cohen Place location. This role is responsible for setting up and operating TRAK lathes to machine precision components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and production standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Set up and operate TRAK CNC lathes to produce high-quality machined parts.
* Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and work instructions.
* Select and install tooling, adjust offsets, and verify machine parameters.
* Measure finished parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision instruments.
* Perform basic program edits and adjustments as required.
* Monitor equipment and report mechanical or quality issues promptly.
