Job Description:
This individual will perform complex CNC setups and machine adjustments to meet drawing specifications. They will be responsible for continuously improving their programming skills utilizing Mastercam or CAPS. The individual will conduct their own inspection of parts for conformance to drawing specifications as well as conduct first article inspections. This individual is responsible for operating multiple machines at one time based on part cycle times.
As a Machinist at Moon Tool there are three levels of increasing responsibilities. Listed below illustrates what is expected and how an employee can advance.
Role Summary:
Machinist 1
Read detailed drawings or files, such as blueprints, sketches, and those for computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM).
Perform machine set ups, operating, and disassembling manual, automatic, and CNC machine tools.
Align, secure, and adjust cutting tools and workpieces.
Monitor the feed and speed of machines.
Turn, mill, drill, shape, and grind machine parts to specifications.
Verify that completed products meet requirements.
Ability to conduct a first article inspection to inspect in-process parts and finished machined parts.
Repair broken parts or machines when necessary
Machinist 2
Continue activities as a Machinist 1 and conduct the following actions on their own.
Program CNC machines utilizing Mastercam/CAPS with limited direction from a mentor.
Operate multiple machines based on cycle times.
Assist in mentoring new employees.
Provide suggestions on how to increase efficiencies throughout the shop and on jobs.
Machinist 3
Continue activities as a Machinist 2.
Work independently without assistance from a supervisor/ mentor on most jobs.
Reporting Structure:
This position reports directly to the department supervisor or shift lead.
Working Conditions:
The worker is subject to noise, there is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
The worker is subject to hazards such as exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The worker is subject to standing or remaining upright on their feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
The worker is subject to oils, there is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
