This role in summary
This position maintains, troubleshoots and repairs dies, die components, and tooling used in the production process. Manual and CNC equipment and tool room machinery is used regularly. Tool Makers often work in production areas outside of the Tool Room to troubleshoot dies and tooling in presses. Personnel must comply with safety and work rules for the area they are working in, and follow all required safety practices.
This is a 2nd or 3rd shift role.

Your responsibilities will include
* Maintain stamping dies of all types, die components and production tooling, and troubleshoot dies in press.
* Install and adjust die and tooling components as necessary.
* Interpret complex detail and component drawings.
* Produce parts to print tolerances.
* Maintain production tooling within quality standards.
* Communicate effectively with operators, set-up personnel, and supervisors on all three shifts regarding tooling requirements, and die and equipment status.
* Complete all required paperwork, quality records, documents, etc.
* Setting up machine tools such as drills, lathes, grinders, and milling machines.
* Cutting and shaping blocks to specified dimensions.
* Filing, grinding, and shimming metals to ensure a smooth finish.
* Fitting and assembling tools and die parts.
* Inspecting finished dies and tools for defects, smoothness, and contour deformities.
* Conducting test runs with completed tools and dies / molds
Minimum requirements
* High School Diploma or GED
* Completion of State-indentured Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship or 10 years equivalent experience.
* Familiarity with stamping dies of all types
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
* Understanding of modern punch press principles
Preferred skills and experiences
* Progressive and/or transfer die knowledge
* ProtoTrak or other CNC experience

As part of the talented Capitol Engineering (Plant 11) team as a Tool & Diemaker you will be a critical tool shop leader in Mercury's Tool & Die shop which supports multiple foundry operations including high pressure die cast, lost foam, and investment casting.

Work safely and efficiently while handling die cast tooling components up to 30 tons
Operate CNC and manual lathes, mills, grinders, saws, EDMs, drill presses, and other tool shop equipment
Perform disassembly, final assembly, and outbound tooling inspections
Inspect and precision measure in-process tooling and components to meet print specifications
Operate overhead cranes and hoists
Manage multiple projects and ensure customer due dates are met
Accurately plan and track time for specific work orders

Be responsible for the tool and die making for multistation blank-through, parting and chop-off progressive dies for all straight side metal stamping presses and other presses including US Baird, Dennison, Neff, Aida, Stamtec and Verson.
Review AutoCAD or other CAD drawings and build the detailed components of progressive dies such as die blocks, strippers, stick cutting punches, form punches, punch plates, etc.

EDUCATION
