This role in summary
Reporting to the Tool Room Supervisor/lead man, this position provides technical support to the repair and manufacture of needed tooling used in the manufacturing processes, both new and existing tooling, including prototype applications.
The Tool Room is an area where many diverse machining and assembly procedures are used. Many different types of coolants, solvents, and cutting fluids are used in its daily functions. Some people may react to the different solvents and/or coolants used. Tools and dies and component parts are very sharp and must be handled with extreme care. Gloves and other personal protective equipment are available. Multiple machines are used in the everyday operation of this area. Tool Room personnel are responsible for their own housekeeping.
Tool Room personnel often work in other areas of the plant where hearing protection is mandatory. Tool Room employees are required to comply with all safety practices for their area, any area of the plant they work in, and all general company safety practices and regulations.
This is a Safety Sensitive position. Employees in this job classification may be randomly screened under InSinkErator's Substance Abuse policy.

Your responsibilities will include
Responsible for the manufacture and resurfacing of welding bars and wheels used in the production process.
Sharpen needed cutting tools as required by manufacturing departments.
Build, finish to print specification and maintain die components, fixtures and fixture components.
Participate in activities to assist in ensuring safe working conditions for facility employees.
Assist manufacturing and tool room with any part fabrication when necessary. Rough and finish prep tooling for the wire EDM machine.
Perform additional assignments as directed by the position's lead man or supervisor.
Complete all required paperwork, quality records, documents, etc.
Comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards, and clean/restock area at end of shift.
Minimum requirements
Requires an Associate Degree in a technical discipline and two (2) years of tool room related experience; OR a high school diploma or equivalent, post secondary education equivalent to one year of a technical discipline and four (4) years of tool room experience; OR a high school diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of tool room experience.
Preferred skills and experiences
Ability to comprehend blueprints and schematics relating to tooling, equipment, and fixtures.
Working knowledge of tool room equipment, including but not limited to: Bridgeport mills, lathes, grinders and other ancillary equipment.
Knowledge of metal heat-treating a plus.
Math competency in basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
Understanding of tool steel selection process and application.
Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment.
Ability to use precision measuring equipment including dial indicators, calipers, and micrometers. Knowledge on use of technical measuring equipment such as coordinate measuring machine and optical comparators is preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills; high degree of initiative; ability to work effectively both alone and with others. Good attitude and attendance also required.

Load and edit programs via "dry-run" simulation if CNC is being utilized.
Make necessary offset adjustments to CNC programs prior to first piece production.
Read and interpret work orders to select proper work center and identify required tooling and/or programs necessary to perform the operation.
Obtain and install proper tooling such as jaws, chucks, faceplates, arbors, centers and cutting tools.
Use various gauges and precision measurement instruments (i.e. CMM, calipers, micrometers, etc).
Inspect machined parts and complete a statistical process control report.
Assist manufacturing engineering in process improvements.
Return tooling and report any difficulties with tooling or material.
Read and understand basic manufacturing mechanical blueprints, and have sufficient shop math skills

Key Accountabilities

The CNC Machine Operator is an experienced machine operator who is disciplined, creative and an excellent problem solver who will thrive in our lean manufacturing environment. At least 3+ (three) or more years of CNC maintenance mechanic experience
At least 3+ (three) or more years navigating CNC controls including OSP, Fanuc, Haas controls.
At least 3+ (three) or more years of experience troubleshooting/repairing and training others on turret alignment, spindle/motor replacements, and other machine components rebuilds.
At least 3+ (three) or more years repairing and installing various voltages as needed for CNC equipment.
At least 3+ (three) or more years designing and implementing new hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
At least 3+ (three) or more years of experience identifying, developing and performing required daily/weekly/monthly/semi-annual and annual maintenance on all CNC equipment.
Preferences:

Responsibilities:
Works with computer numeric controlled (CNC) heavy machinery from setup to operation to produce parts and tools from metal. May operate other machinery to include horizontal boringmill and CNC vertical and horizontal lathes.
Performs layouts, sets up, machine tools as required.
Review blueprints, drawings, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of part/product, sequence of operations and/or set up requirements.
Reads and interprets all drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerance.
Measure, mark and otherwise indicate the dimensions and reference points on the part or material to be used as guides for subsequent machining.
Select, align and secure the holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines to include mills, lathes and grinders.
Calculate and set controls to regulate various machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and angle of cut.
Start and observe machine operation to detect any malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust the machine controls as necessary.
Verify conformance of finished part to ensure that it meets specifications.
Improves methods for higher quality and improved costs.
Assist maintenance in diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance.
Adheres to company and departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
Performs other duties within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.

JOB SUMMARY:
CNC Machinist III is a senior level position to perform more complex lathe and mill tasks, demonstrating the ability to lead and train machinists. They will continue to learn all aspects of CNC operations, the trade and, as a part of the Production Team, fill in as needed in other areas in support of manufacturing. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities necessary to meet the minimum job requirements of this position. Manufacture parts within a cell with multiple machines to exacting blueprint dimensions and ensure 100% part quality. Perform simple and complex set-ups on both manual and CNC turning / milling machining centers. Edit CNC programs as necessary to improve the machining process and extend tool life while meeting production rates. Develop simple CNC programs using the machine controls.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Serves as a machining Subject Matter Expert (SME) within areas of demonstrated competent authority in relation to Quality and Cost.
Performs new and/or complex set-ups and operates equipment to produce high quality parts (100% good pieces) within prescribed routed time to meet production demands. If standard production rates cannot be met, the operator must notify his supervisor.
Debugs CNC programs and fully documents completed setups according to standard procedures.
Knowledgeable in all aspects of GD&T and its application relative to part manufacture and inspection. Read and understand drawings to effectively manufacture parts to close tolerances.
Maintains equipment via established preventative maintenance schedules.
Follows all prescribed quality procedures and inspection plans. Occasionally operates CMM to make in-process checks utilizing pre-established CMM programs and set-ups.
Performs 1st piece inspections and monitors own work to meet process requirements including fully documenting inspections reports developed by the Quality department.
Verifies that the inspection equipment being utilized is in calibration and performs a simple daily check against a known master to ensure the accuracy of the gage to be used.
Drive safe operations by identifying safety risks and adhering to safety procedures, requirements and regulations. Knowledgeable with tool / insert selection and utilizing the correct feeds and speeds for the materials being machined.
Follows supervisor's direction to troubleshoot problem processes, interfacing with Manufacturing Engineers if necessary.
Help train new individuals in basic CNC operations. Provide guidance on interpreting GD&T to lesser experienced operators.
Any additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
5+ years CNC Milling / Turning experience in a job shop environment.
