Primary Function:
The Manual Machinist is responsible for manual machining, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently on complex, large-scale projects.
Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
Perform a wide range of manual machining operations including turning, milling, drilling, reaming, boring, slotting, grinding, and tapping.
Rigorously follow all shop safety procedures and maintain proper use of PPE.
Safely rig, move, and position large and heavy parts using overhead cranes.
Monitor, maintain, and properly use shop tooling.
Read, interpret, and apply advanced-level blueprints, including GD&T.
Inspect and verify dimensional accuracy of workpieces using calipers, micrometers, indicators, profilometers, and other precision tools.
Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure efficient project execution.
Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences.
Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
Minimum of 10+ years of experience as a manual machinist; 15+ years strongly preferred.
Proven knowledge of rigging practices and safe operation of overhead cranes.
Advanced ability to read and interpret blueprints, with strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and GD&T.
Expert-level understanding of metrology and inspection tools.

Position Responsibilities:
Perform all functions related to tool fabrication, rework, and repair as required.
Obtain work orders from the team leader or supervisor, determining assignments based on schedule dates and tool availability.
Read work orders and blueprints to identify required tasks, tools, and equipment.
Develop plans for the fabrication, maintenance, and repair of tools.
Initiate and coordinate engineering change requests with internal support groups when necessary.
Determine the sequence of tool fabrication work, troubleshoot issues, and develop solutions to production challenges.
Access and utilize appropriate tool drawings, models, and specifications using available computing systems.
Select and verify necessary equipment from the shop storage area, ensuring current tool certification.
Perform repairs or replacements on tools as per Standing Tool Order (STO) Production Requests, and request rework orders if necessary.
Layout holes, lines, and other tool features, and install or modify hydraulic, pneumatic, and vacuum tubes as required.
Operate various machinery, including power saws, drill presses, and CNC machines, to shape materials and prepare details.
Move materials and equipment using Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) and overhead cranes as needed.
Maintain accurate records of orders and coordinate tooling information with other shifts and departments.
Handle hazardous materials in compliance with Boeing procedures, using appropriate personal protective equipment.
Engage in continuous improvement practices to enhance quality, safety, and efficiency in tool and die work.
Use precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers and gauges, to ensure accuracy in fabrication and repairs.
Interface with customers and suppliers to incorporate changes or resolve functional and installation issues.
Submit completed jobs to Quality Assurance and assist inspectors in performing necessary checks or measurements.
Utilize mathematics, including algebra and trigonometry, to calculate dimensions and analyze Model Based Definition (MBD) for fabrication details.
Conduct tool tryouts and make necessary adjustments to ensure production meets quality requirements and specifications.

Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

About this Role
As a prototyping machinist your focus will be with programming short run and multi-axis parts using NX CAM. Our shop focuses on high-precision, sometimes tricky, low-volume prototype quantity parts. We work primarily in aluminum, plastics, and steel. The ability to quickly and effectively get parts programmed and running on the machines is essential to this job. Familiarity with 3 and 5-axis vertical mills is needed. Experience with manual mill and lathe will definitely help. Experience with a diverse and often urgent-paced team is beneficial. A detail focused eye for making high-quality parts is a must. This position requires you be in our facility, with the machines and team.
Basic Qualifications
Experience prepping, programming, tooling/fixtures, running, and post-processing CNC machined parts
Prototoype CNC service bureau experience or technical degree desired

Able to use common hand tools and shop equipment (saws, grinders, drills, etc.)
Able to work with multiple vendors for cutters, fasteners, outside processes

Job Scope
Under minimal supervision, the Senior Prototyping Machinist (SPM) performs complex and highly varied machining operations to rapidly produce prototypes using conceptual designs and materials. Job Description
Seeking a highly experienced Machinist to work in ENTEK's Machine Shop. Without technical supervision performs the most complex machining and fitting of all kinds of parts, tools, and machines in support of production operations or job shop machining. Lays out work from blueprints, sketches, and written specifications. Sets up and operates all available machine tools and performs progressive machining operations on work involving very close tolerances or unusual requirements. Determines operation sequences. Uses skillfully all machinists' hand tools and measuring instruments. Familiar with working properties of all materials. Programs CNC machine tools in the course of making parts. Fits and assembles where necessary. Must be willing to work any shift.
Qualifications

Manual Machinist (Direct Placement for Client) Sigma Design has collaborated with a heavy industrial fabrication and machine shop seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to join their facility in North Portland, OR. This company is one of the largest machine shops on the west coast. They have a long history of offering a wide range of equipment and services. Their products are used in a variety of industries, including mining, steel mills, power generation, cement, pulp, and paper.

Primary Function:
The Manual Machinist is responsible for manual machining, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently on complex, large-scale projects.
Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
* Perform a wide range of manual machining operations including turning, milling, drilling, reaming, boring, slotting, grinding, and tapping.
* Rigorously follow all shop safety procedures and maintain proper use of PPE.
* Safely rig, move, and position large and heavy parts using overhead cranes.
* Monitor, maintain, and properly use shop tooling.
* Read, interpret, and apply advanced-level blueprints, including GD&T.
* Inspect and verify dimensional accuracy of workpieces using calipers, micrometers, indicators, profilometers, and other precision tools.
* Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure efficient project execution.
* Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences.
Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
* Minimum of 10+ years of experience as a manual machinist; 15+ years strongly preferred.
* Proven knowledge of rigging practices and safe operation of overhead cranes.
* Advanced ability to read and interpret blueprints, with strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and GD&T.
* Expert-level understanding of metrology and inspection tools.
* Strong work ethic, reliable attendance, and a positive attitude that contributes to a safe, efficient shop culture.
* Flexibility to work weekends and overtime as needed.
* Capable of standing for extended periods of time.
Work Environment
Shop: Standard machine shop environment with various types of machinery. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.

About this Role
As a prototyping machinist your focus will be with programming short run and multi-axis parts using NX CAM. Our shop focuses on high-precision, sometimes tricky, low-volume prototype quantity parts. We work primarily in aluminum, plastics, and steel. The ability to quickly and effectively get parts programmed and running on the machines is essential to this job. Familiarity with 3 and 5-axis vertical mills is needed. Experience with manual mill and lathe will definitely help. Experience with a diverse and often urgent-paced team is beneficial. A detail focused eye for making high-quality parts is a must. This position requires you be in our facility, with the machines and team.
Basic Qualifications
Experience prepping, programming, tooling/fixtures, running, and post-processing CNC machined parts
Prototoype CNC service bureau experience or technical degree desired
Able to troubleshoot CNC machines when something is not 'right'
Able to use common hand tools and shop equipment (saws, grinders, drills, etc.)
Able to work with multiple vendors for cutters, fasteners, outside processes
Attention to detail and a drive to produce high quality work
Technical Competencies and daily duties
Able to communicate effectively and present technical topics clearly and effectively. Via conference calls, online meetings, and email communications with our customers
Strong CAM programming skills: able to modify geometry as required and provide design feedback
Able to use QA tools effectively (Mics, calipers, gage pins, fixtures, etc) and deliver accurate parts
Able to select cutters, specify workholding, program, setup, and run parts on Siemens and Fanuc controller
Familiar with quoting jobs, outside services vendors (anodize, plating, heat treat, etc)
Good at cosmetic finishing techniques: sanding, bead blast, clean up, etc
Highly experienced with CAM software; NX CAM preferred
Highly famiilar with a variety of materials, processes, cutting techniques and machining strategies to deliver success
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Able to develop successful machining strategies quickly and confidently
Keep inside and ouside processes moving to ensure on-time deliveries

Compensation and Benefits
