Select mount and align various specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling. Determine, set, and adjust machine speeds, feeds and depth of cut. Select, mount, and fasten cutting tools for specified finish and best performance consistent with the type of material being machined. * Check own machine set up and parts run for conformance to blueprint specifications. Grind own tool bits and drills. * Work from detailed drawings, templates, sketches, assembly blueprints, or oral instructions * Offers technical direction to customers on pre-fabrication reviews, modifications, or repairs. * Operate the machines to perform such typical operations as chasing all types of single and multiple external tapers; turning, boring, reaming, facing, slotting, etc., for any type of machine fit; machining parts involving compound angles or concentric and coordinated concave or convex surfaces to exacting tolerances. * Ability to program and operate in at least one CNC language. * Train less experienced machinists; general inspection of work. * Maintain a clean and organized work area. * Organize and properly store inventory, materials, and safety equipment. * Use of lift equipment as required. * Perform related duties as required. Rotating Machinery Services, Inc (RMS Inc.) is seeking a qualified Manual Machinist to work 1st shift and perform a variety of machining practices involved in turning, milling, drilling, threading operations, etc. They perform a detailed incoming inspection using micrometers and other fine measurement tools, learn to draw prints based on their findings and make recommendations on necessary critical repairs. As well rounded machinists and fabricators they are able to select and operate the proper machine shop tools to remove damaged babbitt and prepare the bearing for repair. They may also use raw materials, welding tools, flame spraying, or electrical test equipment to manufacture, alter or test components as part of the process. During the babbitting process they move the part to our custom foundry where they apply new babbitt using various casting techniques. Once the babbitt is cast, their skill at precision machining and metalworking outputs a finished bearing crafted to precise dimensions. Job Description We are looking for an experienced Manual Machinist who is proficient in operating mills and lathes to produce precision parts. Key Responsibilities Set up, operate, and maintain manual mills and lathes to produce parts according to specifications. Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD designs. Select appropriate tools, materials, and machining techniques to achieve desired outcomes. Perform precise measurements using tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges. Conduct routine maintenance on machines and troubleshooting issues as needed. Ensure all work meets strict quality standards and tolerances. Qualifications Proven experience as a Manual Machinist with expertise in operating mills and lathes. Strong knowledge of machining processes, tooling, and materials. Collaborate with machinists and craftsmen in the Central Repair Shop to refurbish and manufacture parts for equipment repairs in accordance with Dow specifications for LAO operation areas maintained by nested maintenance groups. This requisition was created to generate a pool of candidates for potential work in these areas. Primary Responsibilities: Follow all shop procedures and safety rules without exception. Accurately read and use precision measuring tools. Set up and machine precision fits on lathes, mills, key seaters, surface grinders, and drill presses. Understand and apply proper use of machining tools, inserts, and alloys. Set up balancing machines for components or assemblies as needed. Use machine attachments such as tool post grinders, indexing heads, boring bars, and taper attachments. Perform complex machining operations safely and efficiently. Communicate effectively with internal shops to maintain job flow. Sharpen machining tools and drill bits accurately. Read and interpret blueprints and layouts. Draw accurate working sketches when required. Understand metal properties, hardness, machinability, and heat treatment effects.
