Job Function: The Sr. Machinist handles all aspects of running a machine shop and is responsible for operation of both manual and CNC machines, programming and assisting with estimating work. Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interprets geometric dimensions and tolerances. May supervise the work of employees engaged in shop production and production support activities, to include recommendations for hiring, termination, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution. Maintains current knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and systems. Qualifications & Experience: 5- 10 years in machine shop environment. Well versed in CAM software with CNC mill and lathe experience. Experience with calculating feeds and speeds based on cutter type, cutter geometry and parent material type. Familiar with all common machinable materials as they relate to proper tool coatings, composition, geometry and operational speeds & feeds. Physical Requirements: Strength and Stamina: The job may involve lifting and moving parts or materials, typically up to 50lbs. The ability to stand for long periods (8+ hours) is required. Manual Dexterity: Precise hand movements are necessary for handling tools, making adjustments to machines and operating a computer. Visual Acuity: Good eyesight, including close vision and depth perception, is important for detailed work and inspecting finished parts. Mobility: Frequent bending, stooping, and crouching is required, along with the ability to maneuver around machinery and equipment.
