COURT REPORTER
Monthly Salary: $7,121 - $8,657*

The Madera County Superior Court offers membership into CalPERS, and for Classic Members a 2.7% at 55 retirement benefit formula is available for individuals who were in a reciprocal California Government Retirement System on or before 12/31/2012. THE POSITION
Under general supervision, record and transcribe verbatim stenographic accounts of court proceedings and prepares certified transcripts of the proceedings.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Exercises no supervision.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Reports and transcribes verbatim accounts of court proceedings in accordance with established policies, procedures, statutes, and standards.
Reads back all or portions of the official court proceedings to courtroom participants upon instruction from the judge, including to jurors during deliberation.
Prepares transcripts; reviews and certifies transcripts of court proceedings.
Maintains a variety of electronic and paper files of the court record.
Provides transcripts on request of parties or the court.
Prepares daily transcripts, as needed.
Performs basic legal and other research to ensure appropriate case documentation of names, quotations, and similar information.
Attends grand jury proceedings as directed and when requested by the foreperson, District Attorney or County Counsel.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:

BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIREMENTS:
The final candidate will be required to submit to Live Scan Fingerprinting as a condition of employment should an offer be made. In addition, the final candidate will be required to submit verification of identity, citizenship or legal right to work in the United States.
EMPLOYEE BENEFITS:
Benefits of employment with the Superior Court, County of Madera include 13 paid holidays and 1 floating holiday per year, 1 sick leave day per month (unlimited accrual); Appointed to a permanent position shall be granted 5 days credit for vacation following the completion of 6 calendar months of continuous paid full-time service and following the completion of 12 calendar months of continuous paid full-time service in a permanent position will be credited 5 additional vacation days, vacation accrual increasing thereafter with years of service (50 days max accrual); Membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) pursuant to the provisions of Californias 2013 Pension Reform Act (Act) and CalPERS Regulations. Superior Court participates in the CalPERS Health Benefit Program, and for certain selected health plans, the Superior Court pays 100% of the health insurance premium for employee and 50% for either two-party or family coverage.
EXAMINATION PROCESS:
A qualifications appraisal for the purpose of appraising the candidates education, experience, and personal qualifications will be scheduled for those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications, and may be administered either by a written examination, oral interview, evaluation of education and experience, or any combination of qualifications appraisal determined by the Superior Court Human Resources Division to be appropriate. The Human Resources Division may limit the number of qualified applicants eligible to participate in the examination process. The Superior Court Human Resources Division will make reasonable accommodations in the examination process for disabled applicants. Selection Process
The examination process may consist of the following:
PANEL INTERVIEW - 100%: A panel interview will be administered by a panel of officers. The panel of subject matter experts will evaluate a candidate's ability toe establish and maintain effective working relationships, ability to deal courteously but firmly with the general public, ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies or other topics related to a candidate's training, experience, and personal traits for the position of Police Officer Lateral. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list.
Since this recruitment is open on a continuous basis, the examination process may be repeated periodically, depending on the number of applicants. As these processes are completed, new candidates will be merged with the current eligible list. Although your score will remain the same through this process, your placement on the eligible list may change.
Eligibles certified to the Police Department for consideration must successfully complete a polygraph test or computer voice stress analyzer test, extensive background investigation, and police department interview before receiving a conditional offer of employment. Individuals receiving a conditional offer of employment must successfully complete a psychological exam and medical exam before receiving a final offer of employment.
Veteran Preference Regulations
Qualified veterans who pass the examination may obtain five (5) additional points.
Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service. Veterans, including City employees, must resubmit proof of honorable service for every examination for which veteran's preference credit is requested.

This program is designed for college students to gain experience in law enforcement, primarily in the Corrections field. Candidates will have the opportunity to attend the Correctional Academy at the Stanislaus County Regional Training Center as their college schedule permits. Stanislaus County will bear the cost of the Correctional Academy. The Corrections Academy consists of 240 hours of instruction. While attending the Correctional Academy Interns will receive intensive academic instruction in Law Enforcement and Corrections procedures combined with rigorous physical fitness and defensive tactics training. Successful completion of this Corrections Academy requires full-time attendance for approximately six weeks. Upon completion of the Corrections Academy and the minimum age of 21, interns are eligible for full-time employment as a Deputy Sheriff - Custodial Deputy.
The incumbent will be assigned to work in the Adult Detention facilities under the direct supervision of a Facility Training Officer (FTO). During this assignment, the incumbent will receive training in the care, custody, and control of inmates.
The Deputy Sheriff Intern must transition to the Deputy Sheriff-Custodial classification or separate from County service before age 26.
The internship program will require a shift commitment based on your college schedule availability. You must retain your college enrollment through the entirety of the internship. You must be enrolled in a minimum of nine college units each semester and maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher.
The Deputy Sheriff - Custodial Intern is a part-time, extra help, provisional classification where permanent status may not be obtained. Assist Deputy Sheriff-Custodial staff with the supervision of incarcerated persons in a variety of activities at adult detention facilities, including the following:
* Process, search, and release incarcerated persons in the SDC-East and West Facilities, Minimum Housing Unit, and REACT Center;
* Maintain order and discipline among incarcerated persons;
* Type booking slips, incident reports, and other forms as required;
* Serve civil process papers;
* Serve as a hospital guard;
* Inspect sanitation and oversees the feeding of incarcerated persons;
* Supervise the daily activities of the Jail incarcerated persons;
* Analyze situations accurately and adopts an effective course of action quickly;

Responsibilities include developing, implementing and evaluating animal behavior policies and procedures consistent with best practices and guidelines including population management, investigations, and behavior medication treatment plans; supervising assigned staff and volunteers; developing animal behavior and temperament assessments for appropriate intake and kenneling; identifying behaviors and underlying causes and working with the animals to train and correct the behaviors; developing animal enrichment activities including socialization and mental stimulation exercises such as playgroups and exercise plans; collaborating with Veterinary and animal care staff on monitoring animal behavior and temperament progress; working with staff and the public to maximize successful placements and outcomes for animals to remain in their homes and providing education on animal behavior approaches; and performing related work as required.
Incumbents must demonstrate initiative, tact, and sensitivity in education and awareness of animal services resources and must be able to communicate effectively with diverse groups.
Incumbents will be required to work nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays and
respond to after-hours emergencies as needed; will be exposed to a working environment with animals (primarily dogs and cats) which may lead to possible exposure of unpleasant odors and noises, allergens, interactions with animals, and possible exposure to zoonotic diseases; and will be required to handle and restrain animals humanely and safely using approved protocols and practices.
This is an unclassified position in which incumbents serve at the will of the Department Director.
