Performs arterial and capillary punctures, runs venous, arterial and capillary blood gas samples, electrolytes and lactic acid tests and maintains and operates the Blood Gas analyzer. May assist in Pulmonary Rehab by providing appropriate exercises and education to participants. May assist in outpatient clinic as needed and may schedule sleep studies and obtains prior authorizations for the sleep studies when applicable. Performs diagnostic testing through pulmonary function, stress exercise, electrocardiograms, electroencephalograms, oximetry, holter and cardiac event monitoring. Instructs clinical staff on the use of respiratory therapy equipment and the use of the EKG equipment. Qualifications A degree in Respiratory Care from an accredited respiratory care program is required; minimum associate degree or the equivalent as defined by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Must have two years experience as a Respiratory Therapist in a clinical role. Must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of all procedures, indications, contraindications and hazards involved in respiratory care, as well as knowledge of equipment utilized in their department. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate the ability and knowledge required to utilize computers for patent documentation and data gathering for quality care. Must have demonstrated leadership skills and abilities. Must have current Respiratory Therapy licensure in the state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position. Must have Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials as attained through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and maintain active status according to NBRC credentialing requirements. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. Must obtain role specific specialty credential(s) such as Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), etc. within six months of hire into position and maintain credentials.
