**Purpose and Use**

Under general supervision, positions in this classification use geographic information systems to modify/create maps for improvements to MGE mapped gas and electric infrastructure, such as underground conductors, transformers, poles, gas mains, valves, and land base. Analyzes designs and confers with engineers or consultants to ensure conformance to MGE geospatial specifications.

**Progression Through the Classification Series**

GIS Technicians will be expected to develop and demonstrate proficiency in performing the full range of GIS Technician duties and tasks assigned to the unit. Advancement to the Lead GIS/CAD Technician level is based on demonstrated proficiency in performing the full range of GIS Technician and CAD Operator duties. In addition, individuals must demonstrate strong leadership and mentoring skills. Advancement to the Lead GIS/CAD Technician level is by promotion. When an opening arises, GIS Technicians and CAD Operators with demonstrated proficiency in performing the full range of GIS Technician and CAD Operator duties will be considered.

**Examples of Duties**

+ Works with engineers or consultants to determine what changes/modifications need to be made to GIS datasets.

+ Ensures new and modified data meet current engineering specifications and mapping standards.

+ Ensures and maintains geospatial network connectivity for electric, gas, and conduit datasets.

+ Verifies content of required data attributes are populated and accurate.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Education**

An associate or bachelor's degree in geographic information systems or related degree. GIS certification or work experience with geographic information systems in lieu of a formal GIS education may be substituted.

**Professional Experience**

+ Utility experience is strongly preferred.

+ Working knowledge of Esri Arc Map software.

+ Working knowledge of Schneider GIS toolset.

+ Working knowledge of MicroStation.

+ Familiarity with SQL Server database platform.

**General Purpose of Work.** Under minimal supervision, positions in this classification inspect, maintain, and improve equipment necessary for the safe and efficient operation of Energy Production facilities. Maintenance Mechanics maintain a familiarity with and perform all work in accordance with MGE safety rules and practices to provide a safe work environment.

**General Duties.** Schedules and performs routine and non-routine preventive, predictive, and corrective mechanical maintenance work as required/assigned to maintain facility equipment. Performs welding repairs as required/assigned. Safely rigs and handles all heavy equipment, operates hoisting equipment. Performs chemical analyses on plant water systems, adjusts chemical treatments as required. Monitors stock levels. Orders and receives deliveries of stores materials, and issues all parts, materials, and supplies required to support plant operation and maintenance. Performs operational duties as assigned. Performs electrical and I&C maintenance as assigned. Works with and directs contractors and temporary personnel to ensure the successful completion of assigned objectives. Prepares, leads, and participates in training sessions as required. Interfaces with regulatory agencies as required, ensuring plant operation and maintenance are in compliance with all applicable codes, laws, and regulations. Operates and maintains all maintenance tools and equipment. Maintains orderly shop, stores, and other maintenance areas. Other related duties as assigned. **Qualifications.** Typically evidenced by graduation from a trade school, technical school, or recognized apprenticeship program, with an emphasis on mechanical maintenance of major plant equipment. At least five years related experience operating and/or maintaining major equipment in an operational power plant or its equivalent; five years' related experience operating and maintaining major equipment in an operational power plant preferred.

**Knowledge and Skills to be Acquired.** Thorough knowledge of plant hazards and safety equipment, including all standard power plant personal protective equipment (PPE) and its proper use. Fundamental knowledge of power plant operations, and a detailed knowledge of power plant systems. Ability to work in widely varying temperature environments. Must be reasonably available for overtime. Computer literacy in asset management and storeroom inventory control programs, word processing, spreadsheets, and other software as required. **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

+ Meets customer demands for electric energy, ensures stability and reliability of the bulk electric system as it pertains to real-time functions, assures equitable delivery of generated power from jointly owned generating facilities, and coordinates MGE‑owned generating facilities.

+ Has the authority during emergency conditions to take or direct timely and appropriate real-time actions, has the authority to shed firm load to prevent or alleviate System Operating Limit Interconnection or Reliability Operating Limit violations, complies with all applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability Standards, as well as any Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) Standards.

+ Ensures the safety of personnel and equipment involved in all areas of generation control.

+ Complies with all NERC Reliability Standards and MRO, MISO, and all other regulatory policies and procedures including the authority to shed firm load. + As the Balancing Authority, is responsible for and has the authority to implement real-time actions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the bulk power system. + Directs and coordinates various operations while ensuring the safety of Company personnel, Company equipment, and the general public. These may be critical or potentially hazardous functions required for the electric system including electric generation unit control for safety, stability, and optimization.

+ Takes immediate and appropriate response to system disturbances while ensuring the safety of Company personnel, Company equipment, and the general public including analyzing events, alarms, or indicators signaling the disturbance; initiates corrective actions necessary to minimize outages and/or possible equipment damage during the disturbance; takes steps to eliminate the problem or prevent its escalation; and notifies other Operations personnel as appropriate.

+ Anticipates and properly responds to variations in system conditions including monitoring/controlling the generators; meeting requirements for generating changes, voltage schedules for generators, and reserve requirements; and monitoring/controlling gas flow levels to be consistent with daily gas nominations.

+ Makes system energy and fuel supply changes to comply with state and federal environmental regulations including Clean Air Action Days and Emergency Plans.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Supervises and oversees all maintenance projects and crews to ensure compliance with specifications and engineering plans.

General Purpose of Work. Under minimal supervision, positions in this classification inspect, maintain, and improve equipment necessary for the safe and efficient operation of Energy Production facilities. Maintenance Mechanics maintain a familiarity with and perform all work in accordance with MGE safety rules and practices to provide a safe work environment.

General Duties. Schedules and performs routine and non-routine preventive, predictive, and corrective mechanical maintenance work as required/assigned to maintain facility equipment. Performs welding repairs as required/assigned. Safely rigs and handles all heavy equipment, operates hoisting equipment. Performs chemical analyses on plant water systems, adjusts chemical treatments as required. Monitors stock levels. Orders and receives deliveries of stores materials, and issues all parts, materials, and supplies required to support plant operation and maintenance. Performs operational duties as assigned. Performs electrical and I&C maintenance as assigned. Works with and directs contractors and temporary personnel to ensure the successful completion of assigned objectives. Prepares, leads, and participates in training sessions as required. Interfaces with regulatory agencies as required, ensuring plant operation and maintenance are in compliance with all applicable codes, laws, and regulations. Operates and maintains all maintenance tools and equipment. Maintains orderly shop, stores, and other maintenance areas. Other related duties as assigned. Examples: Represents the company and interfaces with vendors; maintains plant logs, records, and files; collects information and prepares plant reports; and assists with the development and maintenance of facility operating and maintenance procedures.

Qualifications. Typically evidenced by graduation from a trade school, technical school, or recognized apprenticeship program, with an emphasis on mechanical maintenance of major plant equipment. At least five years related experience operating and/or maintaining major equipment in an operational power plant or its equivalent; five years' related experience operating and maintaining major equipment in an operational power plant preferred.

Knowledge and Skills to be Acquired. Thorough knowledge of plant hazards and safety equipment, including all standard power plant personal protective equipment (PPE) and its proper use. Fundamental knowledge of power plant operations, and a detailed knowledge of power plant systems. Ability to work in widely varying temperature environments. Must be reasonably available for overtime. Computer literacy in asset management and storeroom inventory control programs, word processing, spreadsheets, and other software as required. Ability to use machine, mechanical, and hand tools, and precision and diagnostic equipment. Ability to understand vendor equipment drawings and technical information. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to perform heavy lifting as required. Ability to effectively make instantaneous and long-term decisions. Ability to logically solve problems and balance competing priorities. Ability to perform multi-disciplined tasks. Ability to be certified in the use of respirators.
