Our work focuses on diverse areas including AI, social media, security and more. And we're doing this while never losing our focus on our core mission - to make the internet better for people. The Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the non-profit 501(c) Mozilla Foundation. This means we aren't beholden to any shareholders - only to our mission. Along with thousands of volunteer contributors and collaborators all over the world, Mozillians design, build and distribute open-source software that enables people to enjoy the internet on their terms. About this team and role: The role is part of the IT Function within the broader Mozilla Infrastructure team. The IT team supports ERP Services, Workplace services, Service-Desk and On-Prem DC Services across the organization aligned with the mission to build a safe & secure internet. As a Staff Software (Application) Engineer in the newly formed Workplace technology team, you'll serve as a technical leader within the team, architecting scalable systems and automation that enhance collaboration, identity, and AI productivity across Mozilla. You'll design and deliver secure, efficient application workflows; mentor engineers; and partner across IT, Security, and People teams to advance the reliability and intelligence of our workplace platform. This role blends deep technical ownership with cross-functional impact - helping Mozilla innovate the way we work every day. Note: You don't need to meet every listed qualification to be considered - we value diverse experiences and learning potential. What you'll do: Architect, develop, and scale automation frameworks, integrations and agentic workflows across Mozilla's workplace technology ecosystem - including collaboration tools, identity systems (SSO/IAM), and GenAI platforms (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini). Lead end-to-end engineering of lifecycle workflows (onboarding, off-boarding, access provisioning) using APIs, event-driven architectures and intelligent agentic flows that reduce manual touchpoints and accelerate user access. Build and maintain reusable libraries, connectors, SDKs and agent orchestration layers (e.g., virtual assistants, workflow agents, RAG + retrieval pipelines) that enable faster, safer AI-enabled productivity at scale. Implement observability for agentic workflows and automations: define metrics (SLIs/SLOs), build dashboards, logging, alerts and proactively tune for reliability, security, cost-efficiency and adoption. Partner with Security, Legal, and Privacy to embed DLP, data classification, and least-privilege access into automation and AI flows - ensure agentic capabilities respect governance, auditing, and compliance. Lead evaluation, technical design, and production deployment of new tools and AI productivity platforms: architect integrations, define guardrails, pilot agentic features, measure adoption and user impact. Mentor junior engineers and facilitate collaboration across teams: review design/code, establish best practices for building agentic systems, guide documentation and champion a shared automation culture. Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, Security, Finance, People Ops and Workplace/Facilities to deliver secure, efficient, and scalable internal tools and workflows that empower users and optimize operations. Drive innovation through prototyping next-gen agentic services (for example: intelligent enterprise search assistants, document-to-action bots, contextual collaboration agents) to increase productivity and reduce friction. What you'll bring: 7-10 years of software engineering or automation experience, including experience building scalable systems, integrations and agentic workflows in enterprise environments. Strong software design and development skills in Java, Go, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript (or Apps Script), or equivalent languages; experience with building production-ready services and agentic systems. Deep experience integrating SaaS platforms (collaboration tools, identity systems) using APIs, SDKs, event-driven architectures, and building automation/agent orchestration layers. Familiarity with IAM/SSO (Okta, SAML/OIDC/SCIM), lifecycle automation and securing access across humans and agents; experience embedding governance into automation flows. Proven ability to design for reliability, security, scalability and cost-efficiency; strong experience with observability, metrics and monitoring frameworks for automated/agentic services. Demonstrated ability to lead the technical direction of automation and agentic workflows: build shared libraries, connectors, guide architecture, mentor others, influence cross-team engineering culture. Experience or willingness to work with GenAI/LLM modalities (agent design, prompt management, retrieval + RAG, integrations) and build operational patterns around them (e.g., agent orchestration, trust, guardrails). Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to work across functions, break down ambiguity, and guide design/implementation of complex workflows with both technical and business stakeholders. A mindset of innovation and continuous improvement: you enjoy pushing boundaries, prototyping solutions, learning emerging AI/agent techniques, and making practical impact across the organization. Why Mozilla? Mozilla Corporation is the non-profit-backed technology company that has shaped the internet for the better over the last 25 years. We make pioneering brands like Firefox, the privacy-minded web browser. Now, with more than 225 million people around the world using our products each month, we're shaping the next 25 years of technology and helping to reclaim an internet built for people, not companies. As a Software (Application) Engineer in the newly formed Workplace technology team, you'll help design, build, and maintain the systems and automations that power Mozilla's workplace technologies - from collaboration and AI productivity tools to identity and access workflows. You'll manage day-to-day administration, develop scripts and integrations, and contribute to projects that improve reliability, security, and user experience. This role is hands-on and growth-oriented, offering opportunities to deepen your technical expertise while shaping how Mozillians work and collaborate. Note: You don't need to meet every listed qualification to be considered - we value diverse experiences and learning potential. What you'll do: Design, build, and maintain scripts, APIs, and workflow automations that power key workplace systems - collaboration tools (Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, Atlassian) and identity platforms (Okta). Develop lightweight services or integrations that connect collaboration, GenAI-tools (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini) and internal systems, enabling agentic flows (e.g., virtual assistants, workflow agents) that reduce manual work and improve user experience. Implement monitoring, logging and observability for automation and AI workflows; troubleshoot issues and uncover opportunities for reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency. Contribute to the evolution of secure onboarding, off-boarding, and mover workflows across access, permissions and SaaS tools - with automation and safe agentic handoffs where appropriate. Collaborate with IT, Security, and People teams to ensure identity, data, and compliance standards (SSO, DLP, classification) are deeply embedded through automation and script-driven guardrails. Participate in pilot projects for new AI and productivity capabilities: integrate LLMs & agents, track usage/adoption metrics, build flows that assist users (e.g., knowledge-agent, document summarizer). Contribute to the code-review process, documentation of shared libraries for workflows/agents, and build a library of integration templates for reuse across the team. Partner with senior engineers to modernize workplace systems through scalable architecture, API-first design, and intelligent agentic workflows. What you'll bring: 4-6 years of experience in software engineering, systems integration or workplace technology development, with a focus on automation or scripting. Proficiency in one or more programming/scripting languages (Java, Go, Python, JavaScript/Apps Script, Bash, PowerShell) and comfortable with RESTful APIs, webhooks, and integration frameworks. Familiarity with SaaS platforms (Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, Atlassian) and interest in agentic/AI workflows (LLMs, agents, prompt pipelines). Understanding of IAM/SSO (Okta, SAML/OIDC/SCIM) or a willingness to grow in this area; experience automating provisioning/access is a plus. Experience or curiosity about CI/CD, workflow orchestration, and building self-service delivery models that leverage agents or automation. Strong troubleshooting, documentation and cross-functional communication skills; comfortable collaborating with non-technical partners and translating automation into tangible operational gains. A growth mindset: you embrace learning new AI technologies, care about user experience, and seek to improve systems through intelligent workflows. Interest in building agentic flows (for example: bots that triage tickets, summarize documents, assist user tasks) and integrating them responsibly into workplace systems. What you'll get: Generous performance-based bonus plans to all eligible employees - we share in our success as one team Rich medical, dental, and vision coverage Generous retirement contributions with 100% immediate vesting (regardless of whether you contribute) Quarterly all-company wellness days where everyone takes a pause together Country specific holidays plus a day off for your birthday One-time home office stipend Annual professional development budget Quarterly well-being stipend Considerable paid parental leave Employee referral bonus program Other benefits (life/AD&D, disability, EAP, etc. - varies by country) About Mozilla Mozilla exists to build the Internet as a public resource accessible to all because we believe that open and free is better than closed and controlled.
