Magnetar Capital CEO and leadership

Ernie Rogers is a COO and CFO at Magnetar Capital and is based in Chicago Y Alrededores, United States. He has worked as Fixed Income Team at Magnetar Capital and Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at BLACK RIVER ASSET MANAGEMENT. Ernie studied at Kansas State University between 1992 and 1996.

Barbara Bernstein is the Chief Human Resources Officer at Magnetar Capital, where she oversees the firm's human resources, office services, and Magnetar Capital Foundation philanthropic work. She is a member of the Management and Operations Committees and serves as the Magnetar Capital Foundation’s secretary.

Barbara is responsible for supporting and advising the business on all aspects of people, culture, and organizational change. She oversees talent acquisition and retention, employee onboarding and professional development, compensation and benefits, culture-building initiatives, diversity and inclusion, and community relations efforts, among others.

Throughout her time with Magnetar, Barbara has worked tirelessly to create a firm-wide culture where employees feel empowered to grow both personally and professionally. Today, approximately 60 percent of Magnetar employees have been with the firm for more than five years - a testament to her leadership.

Paul Smith is the Chief Legal Officer and a General Counsel at Magnetar Capital, serving since Magnetar’s 2005 inception.

Prior to joining Magnetar, Paul served as Deputy General Counsel for Amaranth Group Inc. from January 2004 until May 2005. Prior to joining Amaranth, he served as Associate General Counsel for Citadel Investment Group, beginning in late 1999. He previously worked as a Partner with the law firm of Holleb & Coff in Chicago, which he joined in 1991.

Paul earned a Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University's Pritzker School of Law and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics, magna cum laude, from Princeton University. He was a National Merit Scholar in 1980.
