These commissions led in 1919 to a close collaboration with FIAT and the fully-fledged establishment of the "Fabbrica italiana Magneti Marelli" company.
In 1922, a French subsidiary was formed in Paris and a London-based venture followed a year later. It had in 1920 started its long-running involvement in automotive racing; several decades later, it was supplying Formula One and motorcycle racing teams.

The Carpi plant was suggested by Vico D’Incerti: originally from Carpi, a degree in engineering from the Politecnico of Turin, in 1929 he was recruited by Bruno Quintavalle to work for Magneti Marelli, in Sesto San Giovanni, after an initial experience in Lancia.
1930: the Radiomarelli brand was created for the marketing of Magneti Marelli radio products and, subsequently, of television sets.

Radiomarelli's consumer sales business was sold to Seimart in 1975.
In 1976, the plant was moved to the new industrial area, at the address of Via della Scienza 6, where Magneti Marelli was the first large factory to populate the budding industrial area.
The firm became a holding company with a number of subsidiaries, including Fabbrica Batterie York, a manufacturer the company had acquired control of in 1977.
