We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Clinical Nurse Specialist - Geriatrics to join the team at MaineHealth. The successful candidate will bring expertise in clinical nursing, patient care, and education to support the clinical staff, patients, and families at MaineHealth. The ideal applicant should have an advanced nursing degree (MSN or Doctorate), a current RN license with a minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience, and experience in a leadership role. Knowledge of regulatory standards and best practices for clinical staff is essential. This position also requires excellent problem solving, communication, and organizational skills. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will be a key member of the nursing team and Geriatric Care team, delivering quality patient care and education to the clinical staff. The successful candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively and independently to create an innovative and effective work environment. CNS Certification Required Summary: The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) at Maine Medical Center (MMC) is an advanced practice nurse as defined by the Maine Nurse Practice Act and/or the ANA Advanced Practice Standards (1996). The mission of the CNS is to assure the provision of expert, quality, evidence-based care for patients and families in a variety of practice settings. The CNS also provides leadership in the development of staff, resources, and programs that support the MMC mission. The CNS partners with health care providers and management teams to develop and deliver quality health care to specific patient populations within and beyond MMC. Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) * Education: Knowledge of Nursing theory, practice and education in order to conduct patient assessments, develop and coordinate complex plans of care and to develop educational programs at a level acquired through completion of a Master's Degree in an advanced practice clinical nursing specialty. * License/Certifications: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine and license for advanced practice in nursing if available. Certification in clinical specialty at the advance practice level (if applicable) is required. * Experience: Two to three years of clinical experience in assigned specialty area. * A high level of critical thinking skills, process and problem solving skills, and systems knowledge necessary for participation in clinical initiatives. * Interpersonal, communication and leadership skills sufficient to lead individuals and groups. The 100-bed licensed center is set on 50 private acres. Children, adolescents and adults experience a comfortable and pleasant setting for psychiatric treatment. As part of the MaineHealth system, Spring Harbor is clinically integrated with mental health providers, hospitals, and primary care sites to make sure people can access care easily, safely and effectively. The 1 North West Coed Adolescent Psychiatric Unit at Spring Harbor Hospital specializes in the care of lower acuity adolescent girls and boys generally between ages 12-18. Unit treatment and programming include comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, medication management, individual and family therapy, occupational therapy interventions, and utilization of positive behavioral incentives and supports. Patients receive on-site academic tutoring and engage in recreational opportunities in the gym, and the outside playground and courtyard areas. Treatment includes dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, milieu activities, and skills-based groups. The Nurse Manager will lead a team of 30+ direct reports including Nurses and Psych Techs and will work closely with the other Unit Managers (two other Adolescent Managers and the Child Unit Manager), as well as the other disciplines on their service (primarily Medical staff, Social Work Behavioral Analyst and Occupational Therapy team members). This role is normally scheduled Weekdays, 8-4:30, with minimal off hours coverage as needed. These include: * Depression * Disruptive Behavior Disorders * Emerging Psychotic Disorders * Anxiety Disorders * Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder * Substance Use Disorders Unit programming includes comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, medication management, individual and family therapy, occupational therapy and on-site academic tutoring.
