Position Function: The Emergency Department Technician is under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager, Clinical Manager, or at the direction of a physician. Performs clerical, computer, phlebotomy, EKG, and other patient care duties in the Emergency Department.
Qualifications and Standards
Education: Formal Education and Training: At least one of the following four or the equivalent in relative experience is required: (1) graduate of an accredited medical assistant program; or (2) graduate of an accredited phlebotomy program with 6 months of experience; or (3) 2 years of acute hospital CNA experience; or (4) nursing student clinical experience. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology is required. Successful completion of EKG class with minimum score of 80% required within 6 months of hire.
Experience: Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required. Proficiency in Phlebotomy preferred; proficiency in EKG preferred; experience in reading cardiac rhythms preferred; basic computer literacy and typing skill preferred.
Certifications/Licensure: CPR certification required.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Assist physician in patient examinations and specific ED procedures.
2. Performs weekly checks of eyewash station as assigned.
3. Assists in order entry and clerical duties as needed.
4. Completely and accurately documents all patient interventions and interactions on PCR.
5. Recognizes and responds to priorities in the patient care process. Readily adapts to changes in workload and responds efficiently.
6. Answers and responds to patient call lights promptly.

Experience
* Minimum of two years of pre-hospital basic life support experience preferred.
* Knowledge of medications carried for use by the EMT-Paramedic in the treatment and management of neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients consistent with level of training and certification.
* Knowledge of basic and advanced life support and resuscitation procedures for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients consistent with level of training and certification.
* Knowledge, ability, and skills necessary to appropriately assess and manage care.
* Knowledge, ability, and skills necessary to appropriately operate basic equipment and assist with the operation of advanced equipment.
Required Education & Licensures/Certifications
* Minimum of a High School Diploma or its equivalent
* Successful completion of an approved EMT-MAST program or its equivalent.
* Satisfactory completion of practical and written examinations administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
* Current Pennsylvania certification as an EMT
* Current driver's license valid in Pennsylvania with a copy on file.
* Current BCLS certification.
* Hazmat Awareness and EVOC
* Other certifications are encouraged, such as: NREMT, PHTLS, BTLS, Fire I or equivalent.
