USG maintenance foreman job description

SCOPE:

The Maintenance Foreman is responsible for development, implementation, and continuous improvement of proactive maintenance systems for all operations at the Sigurd Plant, consistent with the guidelines of the USG Reliability Performance Model and industry best practices. The primary accountability of this position is to safely maximize equipment reliability and uptime.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Maintenance Foreman incorporates safety into all aspects of the maintenance operation, including maintenance of existing equipment and installation of new equipment with a minimum of mechanical downtime.

Daily oversight is provided for the plant maintenance, electrical, and RPM planning functions. This includes the direct supervision of 3 employees.

This position collaborates plant-wide with managers, PMC's, maintenance supervisors, production Foreman/supervisors, project engineers, production operators and craftsmen to efficiently coordinate needed preventive, routine, and break-in maintenance activities.

The Maintenance Foreman oversees all aspects of plant's Asset Reliability Program, coordinating team problem-solving groups, implementation of maintenance standards, optimization of PPM schedules, applying Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and all necessary reporting of reliability metrics. This includes presenting solution plans and future planning around machine modifications, capital investment needs, operating procedure changes, etc.

This position is responsible for implementing an effective safety program for assigned Reliability personnel. This also includes ensuring housekeeping and 5S areas are in compliance with all requirements.

This position must ensure that assigned employees receive proper training, coaching, and guidance to execute their duties safely and effectively, cultivate ongoing learning and skills development, and promote retention. Maximizing employee engagement must be a strong part of this strategy. Succession planning and assisting in establishing industrial maintenance training program for employee base with local college must be a priority.

The Maintenance Foreman shall champion continuous improvement initiatives, including using lean principles to provide craftsmen with proper tools, parts, supplies, job plans, engineering documents, predictive and preventive maintenance practices, Key Performance Indicators (KPI's), and SOP/VWIs to maximize 'wrench time.'

This position facilitates the execution of purchasing and receiving procedures per established accounting procedures. This includes accurately managing storeroom inventories to ensure accuracy and availability of repair parts -- on hand, order points, criticality status, and obsolete status.

The Maintenance Foreman collaborates with the Reliability Manager to identify and recommend non-routine, infrastructure, and capital investments to support improved equipment reliability and modernization for a multi-year horizon.

This position will interface with equipment suppliers and contractors as opportunities are identified to optimize overall equipment reliability.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Completed high school degree or equivalent is required. A college degree or vocational education program certification (Industrial Maintenance) is a plus.

2. Previous experience as an Engineer or Foreman is strongly preferred.

3. Demonstrated knowledge of plant equipment and systems.

4. Effective planning and organization skills.

5. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with all levels of plant personnel.

6. Demonstrated leadership potential, teaching/coaching skills, and ability to influence those within and outside of direct reporting structure.

7. Proficient with MP2, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, with aptitude to develop additional computer literacy.

Job Description

Summary

The Foreman will directly supervise and coordinate the activities of all workers engaged in asphalt, seal coating, crack sealing and lot marking repairs and will evaluate their performance. The Foreman will perform tasks involving physical labor at parking lots by operating one or several types of maintenance equipment, such as a pave box, skid steers, vibratory drum rollers, as well as, catch basin repairs, bollard installation or any maintenance project assigned to the Team. This position requires routine repair and maintenance of equipment in addition to other duties. The Foreman will communicate daily the project status with key stakeholders in the project. In addition, the Foreman will ensure that all materials are installed per specifications for the project and all work is completed with Rose Paving standards. The Foreman will plan and direct team leaders engaged in their perspective maintenance fields.

Responsibilities

  • Measure slope and thickness of paving to verify compliance with contract
  • Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications and standards
  • Study production schedules and estimate worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment
  • Participate and monitor the training and on-going development of subordinate employees
  • Evaluate situations and suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crews
  • Coordinate work activities with Project Manager, Operations Manager, and Superintendent
  • Record daily job information such as personnel, production time, material, equipment and operational data on specified forms and reports to be turned in daily
  • Assign work to laborers, based on material and work requirements of specific jobs
  • Order or requisition materials and supplies when needed

  • Take pictures of projects (i.e. before/after, Warranties, Accidents)
  • Check and monitor weather on a daily basis
  • Clean and prepare jobsite to eliminate possible hazards for crew and public
  • Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zone
  • Accountable for preventing the loading of company trucks that may result in overweight tickets
  • Learn and follow safety regulations
  • Start engines, move throttles, switches, and levers, and depress pedals to operate machines such as skid steers, vibratory rollers, and an occasional excavator
  • Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met
  • Set up and tear down equipment
  • Drive machines onto truck trailers, and drive trucks to transport machines and materials to and from job site
  • Clean and clear debris from culverts, catch basins, drop inlets, and ditches, and other drain structures
  • Available to lead other Teams with special tasks when deemed necessary by the Operations Manager and Superintendent
  • Facilitate safety meetings and crew mini-huddles
  • Enforce personal company polices (i.e. Drug & Substance Abuse Policy, Sexual Harassment and any other necessary disciplinary action)
  • Represent company at trade association meetings, shows, and seminars to promote the company

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years experience as an Asphalt/Paving Maintenance Foreman
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have broad understanding of Rose Paving's business and proven abilities in the areas of preparation and installation of asphalt and concrete repairs; and a thorough understanding of Rose Paving's other services in the areas of Cracksealing, Sealcoating, Catch Basin Repair, and Parking Lot Marking work.
  • CDL Driver's License, Class A or B preferred but not required.
  • Must have ability to apply concepts of basic geometry.
