Maintenance planner job description

The Maintenance Planner should have a high degree of focus on safety and be active with the mill safety program. Responsible for work order review, planning and materials procurement for the facilities maintenance department. Works closely with Production, Engineering, Maintenance Craftsmen, Storeroom Coordinator and OEM vendors/suppliers to create detailed job plans for corrective/preventative maintenance, shutdowns and manage the work order backlog. Maintain and update the EAM system equipment bill of materials, parts records and preventative maintenance activities. Become a SME for the EAM system and maintenance work order planning and scheduling process.
Key Responsibilities
Plans and schedules corrective, preventive, predictive, and proactive maintenance activities, while coordinating daily with production, engineering and maintenance supervision.Tracks work orders and maintains equipment history files.Controls and optimizes maintenance spare parts ordering, stocking, issuing and inventorying with the Storeroom Coordinator.Involved with root cause analyses for equipment and system failures. Directs maintenance colleagues towards identified problems through work order system.Follows established procedures to resolve technical problems. Provides support to operations to increase machine uptime and productivity.Adheres to all plant safety policies. Participates in plant-wide safety, housekeeping, Operational Excellence, and Lean Manufacturing programs.Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Typically possesses a Bachelor's/Associates degree or equivalent work experience as a Skilled Tradesperson and at least 2-4 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrates strong analytical skills.Knowledgeable or experience with work order planning and scheduling.Familiar with common maintenance tools, manufacturing equipment, troubleshooting procedures and basic repairs procedures.Possesses a solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.Possesses strong written and oral communication skills.Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with others as part of a team.Proficient in Microsoft Project and Office Suite.Experience with using and being an administrator for a CMMS system.Project management training or experience

Responsible for the planning and scheduling of all plant maintenance activities including the coordination of preventive, planned, and un-planned maintenance . Processes and prioritizes work orders, examines and determines best approach for work order completion. Analyzes all planned change parts and makes recommendations for Preventative Maintenance changes. Ensures functional standards are maintained between maintenance, accounting and production departments along with accountability of external vendors. Initiates requisitions for maintenance and indirect purchases. Acts as a liaison between the production, engineering, and maintenance departments.

Ensures parts inventory is adequate to support production/drumbeat activity and at the lowest possible level.Leads Pre and Post Drumbeat meetings as well as all Drumbeat activities.Ensures work orders are accomplished and correctly prioritized.Communicates daily with maintenance, production, accounting and vendors to resolve any issues.Communicates daily and weekly notes on planned and unplanned work Supervisor functions. (Weekend Rotation, Cover absences, First Hours and ensuring standard work process adherence) Makes equipment numbers, tasks and task numbers Adds parts to tasks. (PM03 PM01).Verifies accurate tagging in LEDS, PM02 notification, and BDARAssists Predictive Maintenance supervisor with BDAR review.Requisitions parts and materials as needed for work order packages and non-stocked items.Creates reports as needed Attends weekly departmental RRIdentifies and develops projects for continuous improvement within the department and the plant, including reliability improvements Identifies and implements cost reduction projects in the facility.Reviews work order backlog and rework to determine root cause and provide improvement recommendations Reduces inventory through standardization - (excess inventory) Develops standard work order templates for jobs that are repetitive and require only time planning Works with other planners on updating PM's (hour based, functionality, recommended changes, etc…) Supports other departments and project work as needed.

High school diploma required, bachelor's degree preferred SAP or CMMS experience Formal planner training or experience Three to five years' experience in maintenance role in a manufacturing environment Food manufacturing experience Background in Allen-Brady PLC's. Machine repair background.Computer skills, MS-Word, MS-Excel, and CAD.Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with individuals at all levels of the organization.Ability to define problems collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.Ability to interpret a variety of technical information in mathematical and/or narrative form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.Ability to understand people and have good inter-personal skills when working with skilled and/or unskilled people.Ability to understand how to work with the customer and who the customer is.Ability to know what the priorities are and how to set those priorities when working with the customer.Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently with good time management skills and flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Drive the Zero Incident Mindset culture among Central Maintenance Team • Prepare/organize job plans, MOC packages and task sheets for Team Manager/Scheduler to give to crafts persons as jobs are assigned. • Group work orders to make the execution steps more efficient • Specify and request parts and materials in advance of need and stage accordingly • Perform field walk downs with the appropriate resources to define work scope and requirements • Work within SAP to update job backlog status add materials when needed • Utilize backlog analytic tools to monitor P&S effectiveness • Work closely with operations and third party personnel to understand job requirements and priorities • Develop, maintain and update maintenance job plan packets within SAP and/or the job plan library • Develop PM/PD's using SAP or other software • Evaluate jobs completed/in progress and compare to job plan • Initiate "Management of Change" process as needed • Build in environmental, safety and health steps in job plans • Create spare parts and equipment ID number lists, including changes • Maintain ISO critical and Regulatory test equipment and records • Determine and reserve resources (people, equipment, specialty tools) needed for the job • Prepare SOR documents for jobs expected to be capital or any job that may exceed $40K • Identify cost and efficiency improvement opportunities • Confirm orders when needed • Work with outside contractors as needed • Perform backup duties for Team Manager as needed • Support maintenance on off-shifts as part of a rotating on-call list

Qualifications

+ Minimum 5 years of experience in a maintenance role

+ Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and Outlook. SAP proficiency required.

+ Ability to read and interpret equipment drawings.

+ Knowledge of operations/equipment in assigned area is preferred

+ Knowledge of the "Management of Change", Purchasing and Stores processes process and relevant HSES requirements

+ Strong planning, organization, facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills.

+ Must be a self-starter and able to manage multiple tasks at a time

+ Analytical skills and a desire to provide "attention to detail"

+ Ability to estimate work loads
