The contractor shall manage a spare parts inventory and make all levels of repairs when necessary. The contractor will also be responsible for repairing and maintaining pallet jacks and carts. Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities * Schedules, prioritizes, inspects, and repairs forklifts, pallet jacks, and carts * Determines, within prescribed value range, when a major component/ assembly is to be repaired, rebuilt, replaced or discarded * Responsible for assisting with the purchasing of parts and services * Required to maintain fleet and training vehicles; and prepares written estimates on cost and labor time for corrective repairs. * Interacts with customers to keep them informed of status of vehicles, repairs needed, etc. * Based on assignment, independently performs corrective maintenance and repairs to the fleet. Informs government focal point if a task cannot be safely performed alone. * Inspects, diagnoses and isolates vehicle and equipment malfunctions; troubleshoots, traces and locates defects and/or causes of mechanical problems to determine type and extent of necessary repairs. * Repairs all assigned forklifts and equipment to ensure they are safe and dependable. * Inspects and tests equipment for mechanical defects, and replaces worn parts. * Removes, replaces, adjusts, or cleans defective parts or components * Perform oil changes, check fluids, diagnose tread wear, charge and repair batteries and trouble-shoot problems. * Inspects/replaces hydraulic lines/hoses as needed. * Ensure braking and electrical systems are optimal. * Utilizes appropriate techniques and procedures in accordance with manufacturer's specification * Identifies necessary parts, equipment and supplies needed to complete repair or preventative check. * Road tests vehicles during and occasionally upon completion of maintenance/repair work. * Responds to emails and telephone calls. * Performs other related duties as required or as directed by Supervisor regarding forklift and equipment maintenance. Work Environment The work is usually performed inside on concrete surfaces where there is exposure to drafts, noise, and fumes from vehicles. They are continually exposed to dirt, dust, and grease, and to the potential for burns, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts, and strains. To reduce dangers and irritations from these conditions, they follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as safety shoes and glasses, and respirators.
