Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles, and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency. Operates, inspects and repairs hydraulic-operated transmissions and attachments, hydraulic cylinders, drive trains, tracked vehicle, heavy-duty truck suspension and steering systems. Operates and utilizes an assortment of tools to perform repairs that include power, pneumatic, and machinery such as grinding machines, presses, torch-cutting equipment, jacks and hoists to lift and move large components. Operates, inspects, and repairs brake systems to include heavy duty air brake, single and double chamber air brake units. Familiar with reading schematics diagrams for electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust, and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling, and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines. Performs all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. All work is accomplished IAW with the applicable Army regulations, DA PAMs, Technical Manuals, Technical Bulletins, and Repair Manuals, and Company procedures.
