Program Details: Program Summary The Maintenance Technician Development Program is geared towards individuals who want to gain the skills needed to receive their Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) licenses. The program requires enrollment in a FAR 147 certified program and offers mentorship and a defined path towards certification and starting a career with Horizon Air/Alaska Airlines. If accepted into the program, the individual signs an agreement to work for Horizon Air/Alaska Airlines for a minimum of 30 months. Upon completing the FAR 147 requirements and obtaining their A&P license participants will become a Horizon Air Technician. Key Duties Currently enrolled and in good standing with an approved A&P school. Quarterly check-ins with assigned mentor/leader. Maintain effective communication with the company on curriculum progress. Commit to work for Horizon Air/Alaska Airlines for 2.5 years post program completion and sign an agreement confirming this requirement. Program Specific Experience, Education and Skills Required: Current enrollment in a certified FAR 147 FAA Airframe and Powerplant Program. Ability to obtain and maintain A&P License within 90 days of graduation. Ability and willingness to obtain a current valid passport allowing unrestricted travel, without a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP), to and from the U.S. Ability and willingness to enter and exit Canada without restrictions and without requiring a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) in order to complete maintenance work. Ability to obtain and maintain airport AOA badge. Possess excellent communication skills (both verbal and written). Ability and willingness to consistently lift 70 lbs. and bend, stoop, squat, reach and grasp. Ability and willingness to operate various types of ground support equipment, including movable turboways, forklifts, tow tractors, elevated boom lifts, and hoists. Ability and willingness to work on elevated surfaces by utilizing stands, climbing ladders or other suitable equipment to access aircraft surfaces at elevation. Ability to adapt to performing work according to set procedures. Ability to work independently or in a team environment. Detail oriented and highly organized. Valid driver's license. Ability and willingness to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to communicate in English. High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum age of 18. Essential Duties & Responsibilities * Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled corrective and preventative maintenance work on all District facilities, which includes electrical, industrial controls, plumbing, pneumatics, painting, hydraulics, welding, cabinetry, carpentry, mobile & stationary shop equipment, and HVAC. * Perform emergency maintenance and repairs, including participation in the Facilities on-call rotation for after-hours emergency responses. * Respond to requests for, and provide utility locating services for District owned utilities. * Plan and lay out repair work, using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, O&M manuals. * Install and maintain bus stops, shelters, and associated assets. * Monitor and assist facility maintenance contractors performing work on District property to ensure performance and quality. * Coordinate daily work schedules with other facility maintenance workers to ensure safety and work productivity. * See through projects and repairs independently from start to finish. Performing research, procuring materials, acquiring quotes, and executing work. * Maintain an effective working relationship with LTD staff, customers, vendors, and the general public. * Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; understand and carry out written and oral instructions. * Perform daily reporting covering all time and materials used for District improvements, preventative maintenance, and corrective maintenance. * Operate vehicles and equipment as authorized and necessary to accomplish assigned responsibilities. If assigned, monitors and maintains pool filtration system including monitoring and adjusting pool water chemistry, checking chemicals, pumps, and other equipment around the pool; fixes pool equipment, including switches, chlorinators, and some pumps; repairs and maintains Splash Pad; reviews maintenance best practices for this equipment and implements appropriate repairs. Supervision/Lead Work Exercised Works under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. This is a non-supervisory position.Lead work and coordination of work of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. Work Environment The work environment is frequently near moving mechanical parts and exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
