The Stormwater and Engineering Department is seeking temporary workers to help maintain the city stormwater system. Daily work activities will include manual labor and equipment operation directed towards swale, pipe, ditch, and canal maintenance projects. Duration of assignment is variable but staff in this position will have the opportunity to learn new skills and techniques as they relate to the maintenance of our city stormwater system while also being provided an opportunity for hands-on, real world evaluation towards potential full-time status as those openings arise. This position is perfect for those who would like more exposure to city maintenance operations and to gain more relevant work experience. PRIMARY PURPOSE: This position is accountable for troubleshooting, repairs and performing preventive maintenance relative to the mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing systems and physical structural elements of the center. This position will be working throughout Volusia County, and will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing; water & sewer mains, manholes, lift stations, and water meters, used in water/wastewater utility systems. Candidates should have basic computer skills and experience operating a dump truck, backhoe, loader, excavator, or other related utility construction equipment.
