Responsibilities:
Maintain equipment, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and fluid handling systems.
Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and perform necessary repairs.
Execute emergency repairs and adjustments promptly while production lines are operational to ensure efficiency.
Ensure smooth and efficient changeovers between processes.
Fabricate or modify equipment as required to support line maintenance and improvements.
Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues effectively.
Maintain equipment to achieve optimal reliability and consistent quality standards at all times.
Oversee the maintenance of facilities and all plant operations equipment.
Accurately document project activities and prepare operating standards and maintenance procedures for all equipment and processes.
Establish and sustain communication with relevant equipment vendors and suppliers.
Manage the start-up and shutdown procedures for all plant equipment daily.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Operate and maintain machinery utilizing chemicals such as caustic agents, acids, and ammonia.
Qualifications:
Experience in production equipment maintenance, preferably within the food and beverage sector.
Proficiency in hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Ability to interpret blueprints, diagrams, and ladder logic programs.
Experience with software interface tools for Allen Bradley or GE PLCs and familiarity with Windows-based software is preferred.
Skilled in the use of hand, power, shop, and diagnostic tools (tools provided).
Expertise in electrical power/controls, mechanical systems, and fluid handling systems.
Background in maintenance disciplines, including computer-operated machinery, industrial electrical work, and welding.
Plumbing and HVAC experience is advantageous.
Strong organizational skills and effective verbal/written communication abilities, complemented by mechanical aptitude and capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 60 pounds.
Ability to bend, stoop, climb ladders, and perform standing or walking duties as required.
Demonstrated initiative and capacity to work both independently and collaboratively to accomplish team objectives, including decision-making, problem-solving, and adapting to evolving priorities and conditions.
Willingness to work overtime in accordance with business requirements.
Trade, technical school training, or Millwright certification is preferred.

About this Role
The Facilities Maintenance position is an important role on the Silgan Dispensing team and is a great opportunity for those looking to join our company. Our plant helps produce thousands of our dispensing products each day. So, it's important to keep it running efficiently and continuously. Facilities Maintenance is the lead role in keeping our building running smoothly. It is a mutli -facet position, interacting with all the departments in the building. Here's a list of duties that our Maintenance Mechanic performs on a typical day:
Maintain and perform minor repair of building structure including outside custodial duties.
Maintain and troubleshoot minor maintenance problems, advising management when technical assistance is required. Work with Vendors to drive rapid solutions to maintain production.
Supervise the Janitorial and VMI support services for hardware, PPE, GMP, and cleaning inventory.
Complete PM tasks to a schedule, while looking for new opportunities to improve the PM system.
Support maintenance functions in all departments as needed, specifically Molding and Assembly
Manage Facilities Upgrade or Replacement Projects focusing on adherence to a plan and schedule.
Occasionally assist other CT locations for repairs and/or deliveries via company vehicle.

Summary
The Facilities Handyman, reporting to the Director of Facilities, plays a key role in ensuring that campus buildings, grounds, and equipment remain in excellent working condition. This position is responsible for a wide variety of general maintenance, repair, and facility support tasks to keep the school safe, clean, and functional for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The successful candidate will be a dependable, hands-on professional who can work independently, problem-solve on the spot, and respond quickly to requests from multiple departments.
Job Schedule
Standard schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
May be adjusted by the supervisor as campus needs evolve.
Occasional flexibility required to support special events, projects, or seasonal cleaning.
Compensation
Hourly Rate: $26.00-$28.00, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Eligible for overtime pay in accordance with school policy and applicable law.
Responsibilities
General Maintenance & Repairs
Perform minor carpentry work, including repairs to doors, windows, cabinets, and fixtures.
Carry out painting, drywall patching, flooring repairs, and other upkeep tasks.
Assemble, install, or repair furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
Troubleshoot and resolve minor plumbing issues, such as clogged toilets, sinks, drains, and gutters.
Replace filters, light bulbs, batteries, and similar items to ensure systems operate properly.
Campus Upkeep
Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs and safety hazards before they escalate into major issues.
Assist with groundskeeping tasks, including snow removal, salting, shoveling, and seasonal cleanup.
Ensure all workspaces and repair sites are left clean, safe, and orderly after completion.
Event & Operational Support
Support school functions by setting up and breaking down equipment (tables, chairs, staging, AV equipment, etc.).
Provide on-call support for special projects and emergency requests as needed.
Work Orders & Communication
Respond promptly to work order requests, prioritizing urgent needs while balancing ongoing tasks.
Maintain clear communication with the Facilities Manager and team members regarding project status and completion.
Document completed work and track materials or parts needed for repairs.
Other Duties
Support larger facility projects as assigned by the supervisor.
Assist contractors and vendors when on-site to ensure safety and compliance.
Participate in safety drills, compliance checks, and training sessions.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience in general building maintenance, facilities support, or related field.
Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, and general repair techniques.Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and small machinery safely.Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in a variety of environments (indoors/outdoors, in various weather conditions).
Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to work independently with limited supervision.Professional demeanor with excellent communication skills and a customer-service mindset.
Work Environment
This position requires physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor, sometimes under adverse weather conditions. The Facilities Handyman works both independently and as part of a small facilities team, directly supporting the daily operations of a dynamic school campus.
