Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department is hiring a Utility Maintenance Worker II. In this position, you will lead, train, and participate in the cleaning, repair, inspection, disinfection and maintenance of sanitary sewage conveyance systems (gravity).
Class B CDL required.
Essential Functions:
As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Work assignments may vary depending on the department's need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.
* Assign tasks to crewmembers;
* Trains others in maintenance and inspection techniques;
* Informs the public of the activities of the repair and maintenance crews;
* Compiles and submits activity reports and logs;
* Operates specialized equipment, machines, and vehicles (single and dual-function) such as pressure cleaners, sprayers, television inspection equipment, balling, vacuum and rodding machines;
* Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on sewer lines, cleanouts, manhole structures and covers, and wastewater pumping system facilities;
* Locates and removes blockages in sewer lines and manholes;
* Assists electricians in the inspection and maintenance of electrical components of supported systems;
* Performs operator-level servicing, adjustment, and maintenance of specialized tools, equipment, assigned vehicles, and machinery;
* Clears manhole area covers and physically adjusts the structure and/or cover assembly;
* Performs routine operational checkouts on wastewater pumping systems;
* Stores, handles, applies, and disposes of hazardous materials generated by work assignments as instructed in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS);
* Applies and properly disposes of pesticides, disinfectants, and oxidizing agents encountered in duties;
* Ensures compliance with all operational safety regulations by maintaining and using safety and personal protective equipment and implementing safety-training procedures;
* Establishes and maintains appropriate worksite traffic control/warning devices and measures
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of experience in the construction, operation, or maintenance of sewage conveyance or treatment facilities.
OR:
One year of experience with Pima County as a Utility Maintenance Worker I.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.
Supplemental Information:
Licenses and Certificates: All positions require possession of a valid Grade 2 Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Wastewater Collection certification and a valid Class B Arizona commercial driver license (CDL), with appropriate endorsements, at time of appointment. Valid driver's license is required at the time of application. Valid AZ driver's license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine the applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. This position requires a valid Arizona Class D driver's license at the time of application or prior to completion of initial/promotional probation. A valid Arizona commercial driver's license (CDL), Class A, Class B, or Class C with appropriate endorsements is required. For these positions, failure to maintain the required CDL may be grounds for termination. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards, rules, and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing. Failure to obtain/maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.

* Carpentry: Performs rough or simple type carpentry in the repair and maintenance of buildings and related furnishings or structures. 2. Works cooperatively with scientific and other support staff on a variety of modifications and repairs to telescope facilities. This may include such tasks as repairing seams of a telescope, the telescope dome, or its rotation motor assembly. Assists Ridge Telescopes' staff with changing telescope instruments.
3. Operates heavy equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, front-end loaders, backhoes, cranes, etc. in open areas and on level, hilly and/or mountainous terrain to move earth, rocks, sand, stumps, and other equipment.
4. Operates snowplows and sanders in winter weather on an unpaved mountain road. Transports optical and scientific equipment and liquid nitrogen Dewars required for telescope instruments' operation from base camp to the summit.
5. Performs a variety of routine tasks such as delivery and pick-up of light and heavy objects at the Administrative Complex and mountain facilities, fueling all types of vehicles and heavy equipment on the mountain, and performing minor servicing of all types of vehicles and heavy equipment. Serves as an alternate driver for Tucson pick up of goods.
6. Assists with cleaning debris and rocks from culverts (150) in the mountain road in cooperation with co-workers. Removal of fallen rocks is frequently required subsequent to rainstorms and high winds.
7. Participates in maintenance of grounds as required, including tree trimming, weeding, and grass cutting on the mountain road or at the administrative complex.
8. Performs other related maintenance duties as assigned.
