    This regular full-time position is located in Bakersfield, and at times may float to other court locations. are 4:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. Level I: $17.48 to $20.31 hourly Level II: $18.38 to $22.44 hourly DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs janitorial services to maintain assigned Superior Court buildings and surroundings in a clean and orderly condition. Building Services Worker I/II may perform minor building maintenance; and oversee other Building Services Worker, work release, community and/or special program personnel. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Building Services Workers perform routine duties to clean and sanitize Court facilities using brooms, mops, power-driven cleaning equipment, cleaning and polishing solutions and materials. Building Services Worker I/II is a flexible classification series. Building Services Worker I is the entry level of the series and incumbents will receive on the job instruction and supervision in the performance of job duties. Incumbents may be advanced to the next higher level after acquiring the required training and experience, upon recommendation of the employee's supervisor and approval of the Court Human Resources Manager Building Services Worker II is the journey level of the series and may oversee Building Services personnel as well as work release, community and/or other special program personnel. Building Services Worker I * Sweeps, mops, strips and waxes floors and stairways using various types of floor care equipment. * Vacuums, spot cleans, removes stains and shampoos carpets. * Empties and cleans trash receptacles. * Cleans and disinfects restroom fixtures and drinking fountains; refills restroom containers and dispensers. * Cleans, dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork; washes windows, walls and ceilings; cleans draperies, venetian blinds and other window coverings. * Assists in setting up, breaking down and moving folding tables; moves and arranges furniture and equipment. * Turns out lights; locks doors and windows; replaces light bulbs; and reports the need for repairs. * Moves a chair rack on wheels. * Carries and erects folding ladders; climbs ladders. * Lifts folding chairs overhead. * Pushes a supply cart on wheels. * Lifts and carries cases of supplies. * Lifts crowd control turn-style poles in buckets of cement for placement on a cart. * Maintains effective working relationships with the public, office personnel, and other departmental employees. * Perform other related duties assigned. Employment Standards: Any combination of training, experience, and or education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be as follows: Building Services Worker I One year of work experience and graduation from high school or receipt of G.E.D. Building Services Worker II One year of janitorial experience and graduation from high school or receipt of G.E.D. Must be able to travel throughout Kern County. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of: Routine cleaning and maintenance procedures and practices; building and furnishing material and proper care products; simple arithmetic, including ratios and proportions and the difference between dry and liquid measurements; basic hand tools and electric floor equipment used in janitorial services; simple bookkeeping practices required for inventory control purposes. Ability to: Communicate clearly and effectively in English; understand and follow oral and written instructions; use good body mechanics and follow basic safety practices in the performance of job duties; safely use cleaning equipment with skill and efficiency; follow instructions concerning various cleaning products and necessary combination of mixtures; carry out duties in accordance with policies, procedures and scope of responsibility; learn the methods, materials and equipment used in building services work; perform simple bookkeeping practices required for inventory control purposes; maintain confidentiality of Court documents and records; establish and maintain effective working relationships with judicial officers, Court and County employees and others encountered in the course of work. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Manual labor which frequently requires strenuous physical effort, including moderate lifting overhead of up to approximately 25 pounds, moderate to heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds, and moderate to heavy pushing and pulling of up to 75 pounds. Constant walking, standing, reaching, grasping, use of vision; frequent fine manipulation; and occasional climbing stairs and ladders, stooping, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling crawling, sitting, rotation of neck, use of hearing, smelling, and balance. Incumbents are required to work with a variety of hazardous materials, and may be exposed to noxious fumes, dust, and loud noises. Positions within this classification are also exposed to occasional temperature changes as they may be required to work for periods of time, both in and outside the Court buildings.
