QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of all aspects of landscape maintenance, and repair
Minimum of 3 years' experience working on commercial landscape & grounds maintenance
Ability to operate & perform minor upkeep on medium to large size grounds maintenance equipment, such as field tractor, lawn & garden tractor, large-area mower, aerator, push mower, string trimmer, sprayers, snow removal equipment, skid steer, various trucks, etc.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & experience in grounds care, to include routine maintenance, mowing, trimming, edging, tree pruning & removal, shrub pruning, planting, bed care, irrigation, aeration, seasonal cleanup, etc.
Knowledge of irrigation systems, installation, repair and operation
Insurability by the District's vehicle insurance company
Ability to tow and backup large trailer towed behind a truck
Ability to perform minor tasks in the repair & maintenance of playground equip
Ability to lift and carry 70 lbs up to a distance of 50 ft on a routine basis
Physically able to perform tasks under working conditions which require walking, standing, lifting, carrying, and bending over for long periods of time
Ability to carry out oral & written instructions, including but not limited to schedules, work orders, product labels, chemical mixing, and MSDS
Ability to work without supervision
Must be flexible, and willing to adjust quickly to the changing demands of a busy rural/urban school district
Must work well with the public, staff, students, supervisors, etc.

Pruning of plants, shrubs, and trees
All aspects of grounds improvements, maintenance, and upkeep

MAINTENANCE WORKER II - PARKS

NATURE OF WORK
This is semi-skilled and skilled work in a variety of public lands, greenhouse, public parks, and building maintenance activities.
Work involves responsibility for performing a variety of general laboring, maintenance, and construction work, including the operation of automotive equipment; and may involve the responsibility for planning and directing the care of flowers/plants in greenhouse and for transporting throughout park system; irrigation and chemical spraying. An employee in this classification is expected to exercise independent judgement working within the technical area. An employee of this class may supervise subordinate staff. Supervision is received from an administrative superior.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following examples of work are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
* Maintain, install, and repair concrete, gravel, and dirt surfaces, parking lots.
* Operates dump, flatbed, and other trucks in transporting personnel, materials, and supplies, assists in loading and unloading trucks; occasionally may operate heavier types of equipment on relief or as trainee.
* Conduct snow removal and other debris removal when emergency road conditions exist.
* Operates mowers and tractors in cutting grass and maintaining public lands; operates a bucket truck in trimming trees; operates a variety of small tools in trimming weeds and shrubs.
* Plan and maintain greenhouse plantings, sod and seeding; may inspect, water, fertilize, and transplant plants; may apply pesticides; maintain greenhouse watering system; may design flower beds and maintain beds.
* Fog for mosquitos and treat standing water.
* May mix and apply chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides to recreational areas; maintain inventory of materials and supplies; calculates inventory needs and provides bid specifications to the purchasing department.
* Plans, designs, and installs underground irrigation systems; estimates materials needs; installs pedestals, wiring, and other irrigation components; inspects, maintains, and repairs underground sprinkler systems, park hydrants, restrooms; may set irrigation timers based on use of facilities.
* Supervises and participates in installing, painting, and repairing Parks and Recreation amenities.
* Waters and maintains shrubs and trees; cleans and sets up park facilities for public events; assumes the duties of Cemetery Sexton in the latter's absence.
* Performs clean-up around fence lines by removing trees and debris with trimmers, chainsaws, or similar manual equipment.
* Performs, constructs, and repairs parks and facilities using a variety of journey level skills and tools.
* Performs other work which is consistent with the essential functions of the job.

* Knowledge of the type and uses of tools, materials, and standard equipment used in construction and maintenance work, and events for farm livestock.
* Knowledge of the materials, methods, techniques, and equipment used in horticulture.

* Knowledge of the hazards and precautions necessary for the application of fertilizers and other chemicals.
* Knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of dump trucks, tractors, mowers, backhoes, and farm equipment, and similar public works equipment.
* Knowledge of types and varieties of local shrubs, grasses, annuals, and other flowers commonly planted in public areas.
* Knowledge of the watering, fertilizing and care requirements of flowers, plants, trees, and shrubs.
* Knowledge of practical gardening methods and tools.
* Knowledge of manual and hydraulic transmission.
* Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
* Ability to plan, organize, and carry out a plant care program.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City Employees and outside contractors and citizens.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or equivalent GED, supplemented by courses if required by the specific job assignment; experience in construction, maintenance, or horticulture work related to the area of assignment, including experience in the operation of automotive equipment; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
* When operating equipment that falls under the Nebraska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) status, the employee is required to possess and maintain the proper license and endorsements as a mandatory condition of employment.

Indoor Cleaning:

NATURE OF WORK
This is semi-skilled and skilled work in a variety of public works/streets, public lands, and building maintenance activities.
Work also involves responsibility for performing a variety of general laboring, maintenance, and construction work, including the operation of automotive equipment. An employee in this classification is expected to exercise independent judgement working within the technical area. Supervision is received from an administrative superior.
