Job duties for the Convention Center Maintenance Worker (Set-up & Housekeeping Technician) will include the following: * Move and place large quantities of facility equipment and furnishings such as tables and table skirting, chairs, stages, risers, steps, wall panels, coat racks, dance floors and seating platforms in support of scheduled events * Tear down facility equipment and furnishings and return all items to appropriate locations, ensuring items are clean and operable for future use, and or reporting any damage to supervisor. * Perform janitorial functions such as vacuum, spot clean and extract carpets; sweep; wash walls, windows, woodwork and counter tops; polish and dust furniture; clean and stock restrooms; remove and recycle trash; high and low dusting of ledges; clean loading docks, entry ways, doors, elevators, escalators and stairwells. * Maintain facility cleanliness and proper equipment set-up during scheduled events. * Operate and maintain facility equipment and systems such as forklifts, operable walls, scissor lift, telescopic seating platforms and other event related equipment. * Operate and maintain housekeeping equipment such as standard and motorized ride-on vacuums, carpet cleaners (spotters), carpet sweepers, auto-scrubbers, pressure cleaners and chemical applicators. * Operate and maintain material handling equipment and vehicles to support general operations. * Read and understand scale drawings of facility floor plans and event documents in order to set and prepare facility spaces for events according to event work orders. * Support facility Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED} certification by focusing on environmental sustainability and conservation of resources. * Must be able to push, pull, lift, carry and move objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds. * Proficient in the use of computer applications for training, work orders and documentation. * Provide face-to-face customer service to facility users and guests. * Possess good written and oral communication skills to communicate clearly and concisely. * Must be able to work in various conditions such as outdoors, inclement weather, low light, at heights of 40' and perform physical activity such as walking and standing for extended periods, repetitive bending, kneeling, stooping, pulling, crawling, lifting, dragging, moving, climbing and working in cramped spaces. * Move equipment and furnishings in a safe, efficient manner. * Use cleaning supplies and chemicals in a safe, efficient manner. * Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs. * This position is not eligible for a hybrid remote work schedule. We seek an experienced Grounds Maintenance Worker to work at our Hampton Roads Harbor Tunnel location in Virginia. This position offers a consistent, set schedule with a guaranteed 40 hours a week, paid training, and opportunities for overtime available. Applicants must successfully pass a background check. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required for this role. Essential Functions: • Assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue. Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, and other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, and power tools. • Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level. Remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, use hand tools. • Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamel, and other finishes to equipment, buildings, bridges, and/or other structures, using brushes, spray guns, or rollers. Apply primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal, for finish coats. Cover surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting. • Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives. • Mix and match colors of paint, stain, or varnish with oil and thinning and drying additives in order to obtain desired colors and consistencies. Polish final coats to specified finishes. Install structures and fixtures, such as windows, frames, floorings, trim, or hardware, using a carpenter's hand and power tools. • Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting. • Remove old finishes by stripping, sanding, wire brushing, burning, or using water and/or abrasive blasting. • Calculate amounts of required materials and estimate costs, based on surface measurements and/or work orders. • Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisors to determine work requirements. • Cut, fit, and assemble wood and other materials for the construction of buildings, highways, bridges, docks, industrial plants, boats, and many other structures. Qualifications: Education: • High School diploma or GED. • Courses in carpentry, shop, mechanical drawing, and general mathematics. Experience/Skill Sets: • 3 years of experience and knowledge in building and ground maintenance, skilled in painting, demolition and related tasks. • Ability to use techniques, hand tools, power tools, materials, and appropriate equipment. • Ability to carry 50 pounds for 50 yards. • Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance. • Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
