Under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor , the Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of all industrial equipment, including HVAC packaging units, chiller/cooling tower systems, boilers, fluid pumping systems, reverse osmosis and DI water systems, waste water treatment, and chemical delivery systems; overseeing the roof maintenance program, including inspection, cleaning or removing debris, and overseeing contracted services; performing all regular scheduled or unscheduled electrical, mechanical, and plumbing maintenance to the interior or exterior of the facility. This position is located in Milpitas, California.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs both scheduled and unscheduled electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs or maintenance to the interior or exterior of the facility
Performs both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of HVAC units, including packaging units, chiller/cooling tower systems; performs minor repairs to automation or environmental controls as needed
Reads, understands, and interprets schematic drawings such as hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, or plumbing diagrams
Enters, updates, and tracks work orders using in-house software application to ensure standards for customer service are consistently met
Uses power tools, calibration equipment, and other small hand tools to repair equipment, machinery, etc.
Oversees contracted repair services for preventative maintenance of the facility, such as roof repairs, equipment, life safety, and general maintenance to the building
Responds to requests from employees and departments regarding facilities-related issues or support
Overtime may be required contingent on business needs
Adheres to all safety policies and procedures as required
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level*
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED
Five years of experience working in facilities, construction, plumbing, or similar background in a technician role
Industrial or Electrical Controls Systems Certification Preferred
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications

The hourly rate for this temporary position is between $30.00-$55.00 + benefits. Within the range the individual pay may differ depending on additional factors including job responsibilities, job related knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience. WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Facilities Maintenance Technician works both indoors and outdoors on a rotating schedule on Day shift which is Monday thru Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The schedule may be altered from time-to-time to meet business or operational needs; may travel from building-to-building as needed. May occasionally work in a class 100 ESD sensitive wafer manufacturing facility; wears a cleanroom (bunny) suit, including hood, gloves, safety glasses, booties, and mask. May be exposed to hazardous conditions, chemicals, fumes, and/or gases during the course of work day; may be exposed to loud noise; may work in close proximity to moving mechanical parts. Stands and walks, bends, twists, and crawls; May occasionally be required to work in crawl spaces, shafts, or other areas that could cause claustrophobia. Performs various fine grasping movements; operates a computer and enters information using a keyboard, operates a telephone, and other office equipment; may occasionally drive a forklift. Responds to after-hours emergencies as needed. May occasionally push, pull, or lift up to 70 pounds.

Retirement: CalPERS retirement formula is 2% at age 60 for Classic members or; 2% at age 62 for "new members" as defined by Government Code §7522.04(e). The City of Sunnyvale is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals interested in temporary employment to assist in the maintenance of public golf courses, for up to 40 hours a week. (May include, but are not limited to, the following):
* General cleaning of golf courses, including litter pick-up and emptying of garbage cans
* Custodial care of golf buildings and restrooms
* Operation of various power equipment including mowers, blowers and line-trimmers
* Provide customer service for golf customers
* Abate vandalism and hazard

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires sitting, standing, walking, crouching, stooping, squatting, reaching, crawling, twisting and climbing in the performance of daily activities. The need to lift and carry tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 pounds is also required. Incumbents work outdoors, in inclement weather, and the position may also require climbing. Position Description and Duties
Under close supervision, does routine and repetitive manual laboring tasks in the areas of building, grounds, street maintenance, and City facilities and does related work as required.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Maintenance Aides may be assigned a variety of routine medium to heavy laboring tasks related to the custodial maintenance of parks, streets, and City facilities. This differs from Maintenance Worker I, Groundskeeper-Gardener, Equipment Utility Worker I, and Utility Worker I who are required to perform work requiring greater job skills and less supervision. Normal work assignments may include evenings and weekends. Incumbents may be assigned to various departments in the City. Appointees to positions within this class shall be limited to appointments not to exceed 1000 hours (125) days in a fiscal year.
Depending on assignments:
* May perform grounds maintenance work such as picking up rubbish, raking leaves, moving and watering lawns, and pulling weeds.
* May assist maintenance and skilled trades personnel in forming building maintenance tasks.
* May perform routine unskilled, heavy manual laboring work in street maintenance such as cleaning gutters, drains, catch basins, and culverts; and repairing street surfaces by spreading, raking, or shoveling asphalt or other materials.
* May clean restrooms and perform other janitorial duties.
* May load, unload or transport equipment, materials and supplies.
* Work in clean-up crew (i.e. clean vacant lots, vacant and abandoned houses, weeds, debris, litter, and trash) throughout the City.
* Work in parks clean-up crew as well as general buildings/facilities clean-up crew.
* Will work under close supervision.
The following duties are not to be performed by this classification:
* Assist in paving work.
* Assist signs and lines crews.
* Assist skilled crafts personnel in areas such as broad-up work.
* Opening/closing up recreation/community centers.
* Perform office clerical work other than routine filing and answering telephones by taking messages.
* Will not operate any power tools.
* Set up tables and chairs.
* Perform any skilled job duties (e.g. paving, painting, electrical, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to perform heavy manual labor and use basic hand tools. In addition, Maintenance Aide II requires six (6) months of work as Maintenance Aide I or comparable experience.
