Position Summary
This Trades Maintenance Worker 2 position provides support for all areas of campus covered by the University of Oregon Facilities Services. The position is responsible for a wide range of maintenance and repair activities in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems as well as general support for Facilities Structures and Support, Electrical Shop, HVAC and Plumbing Shop.
This is the second level of a two-level series. It is distinguished from the lower level by responsibility for performing tasks independently without guidance of a skilled tradesperson. At this level, employees are expected to determine the best methods and sequence of tasks to accomplish assigned duties efficiently and effectively. Employees in this class may assist a variety of journey level tradespeople and may be considered a jack-of-all-trades.
Interactions and contacts occur daily with the campus community in the course of performing work and responding to emergencies. This position is a representative and frequently the face of Facilities Services. Exceptional customer service is required at all times. It is essential that tasks be completed in a timely and accurate manner while exercising good judgment in requesting assistance when appropriate.
Work is reviewed directly by the Structures and Support Manager to ensure it is performed efficiently, safely, and meets both expectations and applicable requirements. A performance appraisal is conducted annually.
Driving Requirement:
This position will require a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain UO Driver's Certification.
On Call Rotation:
This position may be required to participate in an on call rotation. Being on call requires the participant to live in an area with cell phone reception or to be within cell phone reception for the entire duration of the on call period. On call also requires the participant to be within a 1 hour drive of the UO campus for the entire duration of the on call period to be able to respond to issues if needed. On call periods are typically 1-4 weeks in duration.
Essential Personnel:
This unit may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.
Minimum Requirements
Three years of general building maintenance experience in one or more of the following trade areas: carpentry, electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing, and welding.
NOTE: Some positions may require licensure or certification in a specific trade area.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Maintain condition of interior/exterior building and facility grounds. Carryout minor maintenance work such as plumbing, electrical, tool, mechanical and structural repairs by performing the following duties.
Reports To: Director of Manufacturing
Deliverables & Responsibilities
· Clean plant areas according to needs and maintain organization of maintenance areas.
· Conduct interior and exterior painting as needed.
· Conduct minor structural repairs or build and install structures such as door jams, wall patricians, production benches, etc.
· Conduct minor electrical work such as replacing light fixtures and outlets, repairing electrical cords and minor electrical repair on small equipment.
· Conduct minor plumbing work such as toilet plunging, toilet replacement, minor water system installations and fixture repairs.
· Transport small equipment, tools or parts within plant or outside storage areas.
· Conduct and maintain lower-level preventative maintenance on plant equipment.
· Troubleshoot problems on machinery and equipment with operators or others to determine root cause.
· Maintain walking paths during winter months via snow blowing, shoveling and salting walking areas.
· Maintain or update landscaping by pulling weeds, adding mulch, adding rock or designing other landscape options.
· Run errands in company vehicle to pick up supplies for building maintenance functions, company functions or other projects.
· Carryout maintenance and repairs according to OSHA, EPA, DOT, DNR and other governmental agency regulations.
· Interact with vendors, shop floor and all other departments in a professional manner.
· Carryout all other duties as assigned.
· Regular attendance (7:00am - 3:30pm; Mon-Fri) is an essential function of the job.

Position Summary
The Trades Maintenance Worker 1 (TMW1) position is the first of a two-level series. It is distinguished from the upper level TMW2 position by the absence of working independently. At this level, employees are performing tasks under the guidance of a skilled or journey level tradesperson.
The TMW1 is part of the University Housing Facilities Service team of trades workers responsible for routine, planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance repairs and improvements to all assigned University Housing buildings, apartments, houses and associated equipment.
Under the guidance of journey-level skilled tradespeople, the TMW1 assists in a variety of activities including plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and mechanical repairs. Tasks range from installing plumbing fixtures and repairing drains to framing walls, painting surfaces, maintaining wiring systems, and servicing vehicles.
Additional responsibilities include minor mechanical repairs on small motors like lawn mowers, performing janitorial and groundskeeping duties, and assisting with tools and materials management. This hands-on role requires versatility and a willingness to learn, as employees utilize tools and equipment from various trades to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.
Trades Maintenance Worker 1 will work closely with skilled tradespeople to hone their abilities, while also taking on independent tasks as their expertise grows.
This position requires use of various hand and power tools, safety equipment, and personal protective equipment, including fall-prevention equipment.
This is a full-time, 12-month position and reports to a University Housing Facilities Manager.
Special Requirement:
Valid driver's license and the ability to obtain UO Driver's Certification for the purpose of driving University vehicles.
Minimum Requirements
• 1 year of general building maintenance experience in one or more of the
following trade areas: carpentry, electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing, and welding.
Professional Competencies
• Ability to interpret work orders, enter records in a CMMS, and understand policies, procedures, and safety information.
• Ability to read, interpret, and to work from wiring diagrams, blueprints, service manuals, and written instruction.

Assembles and installs equipment such as shafting, conveyors and tram rails using welders and other hand and power tools.
