Essential Duties

Dates of employment will vary between park sites depending on funding, weather conditions and visitation. Within regulatory limitations, the length of initial appointment may be shortened or extended depending on work availability and funding.

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
* Utilize a variety of materials, tools, and equipment associated with the repair and maintenance of structures and grounds.
* Perform minor plumbing repairs of limited difficulty such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures.
* Perform minor carpentry repairs of limited difficulty to buildings and quarters. Construct, install, repair and replace such items as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets.
* Perform routine maintenance at different sites and visitor facilities, to include cleaning restrooms, and making minor repairs as needed.
* Receive, unload and process incoming shipments according to established procedures, and report discrepancies and damage to others responsible for such items.
* May perform other duties such as painting equipment, masonry work, roofing, welding or assisting higher grade worker with maintenance of utility systems in the facility.
* Operate a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites.
Physical Demands: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms and where surfaces to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach that require incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weight up to 50 pounds.

Position Summary
This Trades MaintenanceWorker 2 position provides support for all areas of campus covered by the University of Oregon Facilities Services. The position is responsible for a wide range of maintenance and repair activities in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems as well as general support for Facilities Structures and Support, Electrical Shop, HVAC and Plumbing Shop.
This is the second level of a two-level series. It is distinguished from the lower level by responsibility for performing tasks independently without guidance of a skilled tradesperson. At this level, employees are expected to determine the best methods and sequence of tasks to accomplish assigned duties efficiently and effectively. Employees in this class may assist a variety of journey level tradespeople and may be considered a jack-of-all-trades.
Interactions and contacts occur daily with the campus community in the course of performing work and responding to emergencies. This position is a representative and frequently the face of Facilities Services. Exceptional customer service is required at all times. It is essential that tasks be completed in a timely and accurate manner while exercising good judgment in requesting assistance when appropriate.
Work is reviewed directly by the Structures and Support Manager to ensure it is performed efficiently, safely, and meets both expectations and applicable requirements. A performance appraisal is conducted annually.

On Call Rotation:
This position may be required to participate in an on call rotation. On call periods are typically 1-4 weeks in duration.

Working closely with a team of animal care professionals, you will clean and disinfect areas in which the companion animals reside to help ensure their environment is properly maintained and sanitized. Clean and maintain all outdoor areas throughout the property including cleaning up animal feces.

Key Responsibilities
20% - Landscaping: Design and develop new garden areas around campus buildings to enhance aesthetics and provide wildlife habitat. Maintain existing landscapes to ensure ongoing quality and appeal.

What We Require

Hours: There are two positions.
* On-call - On-Call employees can work year-round, up to 20 hours per week. Scheduled hours are typically between 5am to 9:30pm Monday through Friday and 6:30am to 6pm Saturdays and 7:30am 6:30pm on Sundays.
* Temporary - Temporary employees can work forty hours a week for up to eight consecutive months in a twelve-month period. Typical hours will be swing shift, Monday through Friday.

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Willing and able to work overtime, weekends, on-call, rotating shifts, and holidays
Experience with reading blueprints and precision measurements
Troubleshooting experience
Experience using a computer for record keeping and documentation
Able to work in extreme heat/cold, navigate catwalks and ladders
Physical ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, which includes climbing stair, navigating catwalks, lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping and bending
Ability to communicate effectively and constructively
Comprehension of complex work instructions and documentation
Ability to work with mathematical concepts in an industrial environment
Basic trade skills in industrial equipment repair and execution of routine preventative maintenance of heavy industrial equipment
Knowledge of Mig, Tig and Arc welding
Machinist training and experience
Stable employment history with a minimum two years of experience in Industrial Maintenance work OR equivalent education to include vocation/technical school certificate
A personal and total commitment to observe all safety rules and regulations
Knowledge of bearing installment, coupling, belts, sprockets and chain drive installations
Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Basic knowledge of metal fabrication
Basic knowledge of cylinder repair
Working knowledge of basic industrial electricity issues
