Job Description The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Grounds Maintenance Worker 2 for the Facilities Maintenance Services Department. This position is responsible for maintaining campus grounds by keeping all walkways, roadways, parking lots and landscapes neat, clean, presentable, free of trash, fallen leaves, and snow and ice. Duties include (but are not limited to): Perform seasonal grounds care in the summer and winter months such as, mow lawns, edge, whip, aerate, thatch, fertilize, maintain planter beds, remove snow and ice as needs arise or sand and de-ice surfaces; Keep the University campus free of trash debris and litter to present a clean, neat and attractive environment; Ensure trash containers are in their proper place and are emptied on a regularly scheduled basis; Clean the ditch weirs, debris, and trash from around the lake; Assist in setting up for special events and regularly scheduled events such as commencement, registration, honors convocation, and campus clean-up after such events; Perform general grounds clean-up of job sites; Operate light vehicles and equipment including hand and power tools as well as light mechanized equipment such as power mowers, tractor mowers, trenching devices, forklifts and hoists; Perform preventative maintenance per established frequencies; Recognize and report plant disease and fungus; Conduct winter maintenance activities in planted areas, such as but not limited to, tree shrub and perennial trimming, mulching, pre-emergent application, and irrigation maintenance and repair; Perform periodic maintenance and make minor repairs on tools and equipment in order to maximize efficiency and life span; and Other duties as assigned. POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for performing semi-skilled work in the set-up and striking of events scheduled for the Reno-Sparks Livestock Event Center as well as the care, cleaning and maintenance of this facility. A Facility Worker is expected to be able to work without close supervision and be willing to work irregular hours and days including overtime, weekends, holidays and night shifts. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Sets up and strikes equipment for events scheduled at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center including but not limited to chairs, tables, portable walls, pens, stalls, bleachers, staging or risers, barricades, furniture, and the like. Operates a forklift, aerial tower, platform and scissor lifts, and other equipment for set up of these events. Maintains the grounds and parking lots by picking up trash, sweeping, blowing off loading docks & sidewalks, monitoring and repairing the irrigation system. Also mows, thatches, and aerates lawns, prunes and fertilizes shrubs and trees, pulls and sprays weeds, pressure washes walks and entryways. Handles snow removal duties. Provides timely and courteous service to clients of the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center in helping clients move in/out of the facilities, loading and unloading trucks, performing light maintenance and carpentry in the construction of booths, displays, and exhibits, and provides transport carts. Picks up debris on the floor and the bleachers and sweeps all corridors, bleachers, concourses, and bathrooms with an automatic scrubber, mop, or push broom. Removes any spillage, gum, and other foreign matter. Damp mops the flooring, bleachers, and staging. Empties all wastebaskets and other trash receptacles and replaces liners; high dusts and cleans the walls, air intakes and outlets, light fixtures, sills, and ledges. Maintains custodial supplies and equipment and tools used to clean the buildings and grounds. Will work with, instruct, and guide temporary help and Community Services Workers. Work around livestock and horses. Clean/ready stalls, maintain barn and grounds. Maintains professional and productive atmosphere. Is knowledgeable in the RSCVA Safety Program and takes necessary steps to maintain a safe work environment. Adheres to safe work practices to prevent injuries. Consistently demonstrates positive, interpersonal relations with all constituencies; cooperates harmoniously with others in the accomplishment of the RSCVA's strategic goals and objectives. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others. Adheres to attendance and punctuality requirements per RSCVA policy. Provides proper notification for absences and tardies.
